It's National Agriculture Day! 🍉🍌🥦 To celebrate, Melons Australia have put the call out for favourite photos of melons - and we're thrilled to spotlight one of the fresh produce commodities leading real change. Melons were one of the two commodities that paved the way in developing the horticulture sector action plans alongside bananas, helping drive industry-wide action to reduce food waste and increase grower profitability. This shot is a favourite for us - captured while filming at a watermelon farm in Chinchilla for the Horticulture Sector Action Plan video. A big shout-out to all the growers who feed the nation and keep pushing the industry forward. #AgDayAU #LoveAussieMelons #EndFoodWaste #Sustainability #Horticulture @Johnathon Davey @Courtney Archer

The latest results from the Food Pact Network confirm that collaborative, data-driven initiatives have the power to deliver transformation at scale. Halving global food waste by 2030 is an ambitious target - and this is the kind of coordinated, evidence-based action required to get us there. We are proud to be a part of this global network making impact at scale. - The Food Pact Network’s impact speaks for itself: - 920+ organisations aligned on food waste action - 2.7M tonnes of surplus food redistributed - 220,000 tonnes of waste avoided - 680,000 tonnes CO₂-e saved This is system-level change delivering measurable outcomes for climate, business, and community. We’re hugely proud to represent Australia in this global coalition and help accelerate progress in this important space.
Reducing food loss and waste is the world’s biggest environmental and social opportunity that isn’t being talked about. Food loss and waste is embedded in how we grow, sell, and consume food, driven by economic incentives that favour excess production, regulations that hinder redistribution, infrastructure that neglects sustainability, and cultural norms equating abundance with prosperity. Addressing it requires coordinated, systemic change around the world. Our first Food Pact Network Impact Report showcases our collective progress to date, as well as a spotlight on the Network’s 10 global members: Australia, Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, the United Kingdom and two initiatives in the United States of America. Together we represent 14% of the global population, 38% of global GDP and around 20% of global food waste. The latest Foodbank Australia (TAG) Hunger Report shows that 1 in 3 Australian households are food insecure. It's a powerful reminder of why coordinated action across the food system is essential, from recovery and redistribution to waste-reduction initiatives, every step counts. We stand with the organisations working every day to ensure good food reaches the people who need it most. Reducing waste and improving access must go hand-in-hand.
Hunger doesn’t discriminate. The Foodbank Hunger Report 2025, released today, reveals a growing food insecurity crisis across Australia and challenges the misconception that hunger only affects the unemployed or homeless. “Australians are doing everything right: working, budgeting, seeking help - yet still going hungry. This is a failure of policy, not people. We need coordinated, national action now.” said Foodbank Australia CEO, Kylea (Pronounced Kylie) Tink Among the report’s most alarming findings: » One in two (48%) of all renting households have experienced food insecurity in the past year. » Seven in ten (67%) of households that include someone with a disability or health issue have experienced food insecurity in the past 12 months, with three quarters of them in the severe category. » Nearly 7 in 10 (68%) single-parent households are now food insecure » One in five households earning $91,000 or more experienced food insecurity in the past 12 months. We’re calling on the Federal Government to act now to stop Australians from going hungry. 👉Read the Foodbank Hunger Report 2025: https://lnkd.in/gfQjPnie #HungerInAustralia #HungerCrisis #EndHunger #ZeroHunger

Reducing food waste at scale starts with measurement, innovation, and collaboration. Opera Bar’s 33% waste reduction is a standout result - showing how industry partnerships can drive smarter, more sustainable kitchens across Australia. We’re proud to be part of the movement creating a more sustainable future for Australian hospitality.
The iconic Sydney Opera House's Opera Bar can serve 2,800 covers on a busy day, so it was inspiring for Solotel to select this famous venue to trial a #FoodWaste initiative with End Food Waste Australia. And the results are impressive. In the first month, waste dropped from 69g per cover to 46g, a reduction of 33%. And their solutions are creative — even repurposing wasted citrus fruit to make a delicious cake. And the job's far from over. Opera Bar have shifted their attention to reducing customer waste. Efforts are underway to address commonly unfinished items, like fries. Meanwhile, Solotel are looking to roll out their learnings throughout their other venues to drive greater impact and bigger savings. Engagement with the Wujal Wujal community following Tropical Cyclone Jasper was a core part of this research. Read the highlights below - a timely reminder to #GetReadyQueensland
When it comes to disaster relief, the way food is produced, stored and delivered matters more than ever. That’s why collaboration between leading organisations has created a new model — one that rescues food, provides nutrition, strengthens resilience, and gives communities the tools they need in a crisis. This project shows the power of partnership to turn big challenges into lasting impact.

Tackling food waste at a global scale demands coordinated action, shared knowledge and proven solutions. The Food Pact Network is a strong example of how countries can come together to accelerate impact - connecting industry, policymakers and communities to scale what works. Collaboration like this is essential if we’re to halve global food waste by 2030 and build more resilient, sustainable food systems for the future.
A third of global GHG emissions comes from #FoodSystems. Globally, 25–30% of total food produced is lost or wasted. On #WorldFoodDay we're celebrating the global #FoodPactNetwork, which connects countries to scale climate-smart solutions and drive the systemic change needed to produce, share, and consume food – without waste. 🌏 So far, 10 Pacts across 9 countries have committed to working together. And despite exchanging learnings that can be adapted and applied locally, we’re all aligned with one global target: to support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 12.3 and halve global food waste by 2030. The Food Pact Network’s cross-border approach is: ▪️ Collaborative and influential: bringing together global expertise from industry, policymakers, NGOs, charities and citizen initiatives to share best practice ▪️ Efficient and scalable: from Mexico to New Zealand, South Africa to Indonesia, members are seeing faster progress through proven solutions that are tried and tested by other countries. Only through #CollaborativeAction can we future-proof our food. By using our precious resources more intelligently we can create a world with higher standards of living — tackling climate change, protecting nature, and reducing inequality.
