Since 2002, the Consumer Goods Crime Risk Initiative (CGCRI) has united retailers, manufacturers, and stakeholders across sectors in a non-competitive alliance to reduce crime in the consumer goods industry. Led by Abraham Nelson, CGCRI supports collaboration from boardrooms to beat patrols. 🤝 Strategic partnerships include: - South African Police Service (SAPS) - South African Revenue Service (SARS) - The banking, petroleum, mining, freight, and jewellery sectors - Business Against Crime SA (BACSA). The CGCRI ensures swift information-sharing, real-time incident alerts, and joint action against organised crime. Fighting crime is not a competitive issue. It affects us all, our growth, our jobs, our safety. By working together, we shift from defence to prevention. Partnership power prevention. Together, we’re building safer environments where business can thrive, jobs can grow, and communities are protected. Reducing food waste is the world’s biggest environmental and social opportunity that isn’t being talked about. Tackling it can address two urgent issues: climate change and hunger. That’s why we at the CGCSA’s South African Food Loss and Waste Initiative are excited to be a part of the 10 food waste Pacts across the world who have joined forces to catalyse the change needed to transform our food system for climate, people and shared prosperity. 📢 The first-ever Food Pact Network Impact Report is out now, showcasing the power of collaboration. From data and policy to citizen campaigns and business engagement, Pacts are reducing food waste and delivering impact. Together, we’ve already: 👏 United 920 organisations to act on food waste reduction. 👏 Redistributed 2.7 million tonnes of surplus food, equivalent to 7 billion meals. 👏 Reduced food waste by 220,000 tonnes, which is the weight of around 10,000 heavy goods trucks of food. 👏 Saved 680,000 tonnes of carbon emissions, equal to taking 240,000 cars off the road for a year. Locally led but globally connected, this is how we will halve food waste by 2030. Read about progress and impact for each of the Pacts in the Food Pact Network: https://bit.ly/47Gv4gd To read more about our progress in South Africa, see pages 31-33 in the report. #FutureProofFood #FoodLossAndWaste #CircularLiving #CGCSA #SAFLWI #WRAP End Food Waste Australia Brasil Sem Desperdício Indonesia Business Council for Sustainable Development (IBCSD) Red BAMX Stichting Samen Tegen Voedselverspilling Kai Commitment The Consumer Goods Council of South Africa (CGCSA) Pacific Coast Food Waste Commitment U.S. Food Waste Pact WRAP

How does your business move beyond compliance and contribute to South Africa’s long-term development? The answer lies in understanding the real power of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). EPR is far more than a regulatory requirement. It is a direct lever for achieving the goals of the National Development Plan (NDP) 2030 — from job creation and inclusive growth to environmental resilience and strengthened state capacity. In a new article, the CGCSA PRO unpacks how meaningful EPR participation drives: ✅ Integration and upliftment of informal waste pickers. ✅ SMME growth through infrastructure investment and B2B funding. ✅ Community-level environmental protection and landfill diversion. ✅ Stronger partnerships between industry, government, and municipalities. ✅ Reliable data that strengthens South Africa’s waste management system. As Matlou B. Setati (Tsebe), Executive for Food Safety & Sustainability at CGCSA, puts it, “EPR has a broader impact through the circular economy, unlocking SMEs, creating jobs and building critical partnerships within the recycling value chain.” If your organisation is serious about sustainability and national impact, this article is essential reading. 👉 Discover how the CGCSA PRO links your EPR commitments to South Africa’s development goals and if you're ready to contribute to a cleaner, more inclusive, circular South Africa. With more than 4.5 million South Africans living with diabetes, the call for a healthier nation is urgent and it begins with the food we produce, market, and consume. Through the Healthy Food Options Industry Initiative (HFOII), food manufacturers, retailers, and quick-service restaurants are brought together to drive measurable, voluntary change. From reducing sugar and sodium, to offering clearer labelling and healthier reformulated products, HFOII members are actively working toward supporting healthier diets for all. This World Diabetes Day, we’re reminded that food can be a vehicle for both prevention and empowerment. Through collaborative, industry-wide partnerships, we’re shaping a future where healthy choices are accessible, affordable, and impactful.
