As #COP30 comes to a close, our Advocacy and Communications Specialist for the Horn of Africa, Alvin Munyasia, reflects on what it really takes to build a #ClimateResilience future. From phasing out fossil fuels to advancing gender equity, he reminds us that bold action today can help prevent hunger for generations to come. At Action Against Hunger, we’re advocating to ensure that governments and communities receive the critical climate financing needed to address the growing impacts of climate change on nutrition. The time to invest in a resilient, food-secure future is now. Thanks to our colleagues Alvin, Marie Cosquer and Israel SANTOS for your advocacy in action. Our own Jenny Thornton recently represented Simprints at Action Against Hunger USA's Innovation Showcase in New York City. Jenny was selected as one of four innovators presenting transformative solutions for global hunger and health, a testament to the vital role biometric technology plays in strengthening humanitarian delivery and ensuring vulnerable populations receive the care they need. The event brought together inspiring voices in innovation, including Maria Kasparian from Edesia Nutrition, Arttu Luukanen from Solar Foods, Marie-Laure Oger and Caroline Antoine from ACTION CONTRE LA FAIM, and Ralph Jerome from Rivalz™. Thank you to Action Against Hunger USA for convening this important gathering, and congratulations to Jenny and all the 2025 Innovators for your dedication to driving meaningful change. #InnovationForImpact #HumanitarianTech #GlobalHealth #Biometrics

“Multinational corporations in the food and agriculture industry continue to undermine the multilateral processes of the UNFCCC,” our Advocacy Analyst on Food Systems & the Climate Crisis at ACTION CONTRE LA FAIM (Marie Cosquer) told Forbes. This new #COP30 piece highlights a deeply worrying trend: the growing influence of industrial agriculture lobbying at global climate negotiations. Big Ag isn’t just attending — it’s actively shaping the agenda. COP30 cannot become a greenwashed stage for major polluters. For the climate community—and for civil society—it’s critical to push back and demand climate policies that truly support a just transition in food systems. That’s why Action Against Hunger is on the ground at COP30: to ensure local communities are heard, and to make sure nutrition remains at the center of climate discussions. Between October 2023 and April 2025, escalating hostilities have severely disrupted agricultural production and undermined #foodsystems across #Lebanon. A new report from Action Against Hunger - Middle East, Oxfam in Lebanon, and Insecurity Insight documents extensive destruction of farmland, the displacement of farming communities, and a sharp increase in food insecurity. Key findings include: Farmland damaged by bombardment, fires, and white phosphorus contamination Farmers displaced and unable to harvest Supply chains cut off, limiting access to markets and food As of mid-2025, 1.24 million people are facing high levels of food insecurity, and more than 82,000 people remain displaced in conflict-affected areas. With support from the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (Ministère des Affaires étrangères français), the report calls for respect for international humanitarian law, protection of food and water infrastructure, and continued #humanitarianaid to help farmers rebuild local food systems. Insightful #COP30 reflections from Marie Cosquer:
At #COP30, world leaders from 43 countries and the EU adopted the Belém Declaration on Hunger, Poverty, and Human-Centered Climate Action — placing the world’s most vulnerable populations at the heart of climate policy. As I shared with Devex, this is “a very good political signal.” I welcome how the declaration centers social justice and recognizes agriculture in a just transition issue that touches the livelihoods of billions — not just a box to tick for emissions cuts and adaptation. This shift matters. It shows growing recognition that transforming food systems is key to both fighting hunger and tackling the climate crisis. The Declaration calls for: ➡️ Climate action linked to social justice ➡️Human-centered adaptation measures like climate-responsive social protection and support for smallholder farmers ➡️Sustainable livelihoods and decent jobs for those on the frontlines of the crisis It represents a step toward truly integrating social protection and poverty eradication into global climate strategies #JustTransitionRising At Action Against Hunger, we’ll continue to advocate for food systems that are fair, resilient, and at the center of climate action. 🌱 Feel free to reach out or connect to learn more about our work. Action Against Hunger Deploys Emergency Teams to the Philippines Severe Tropical Storm #OpongPH (Bualoi) struck Masbate on September 26, leaving behind widespread destruction — homes destroyed, trees uprooted, and entire communities flooded. In Palanas, one of the hardest-hit areas, many families remain displaced and in urgent need of support. Johann, our Disaster Risk Reduction & Climate Change Adaptation Manager, shared that Action Against Hunger Philippines emergency teams are on the ground providing clean water, food, and essential shelter items to affected families. Since Typhoon Opong, a series of disasters have continued to impact different parts of the Philippines — some still affecting Masbate today. We stand with communities as they recover and rebuild their lives, and continue to call for sustained support to reach those most in need. This week, world leaders gather at #COP30. But what is COP? And why is it important? A hotter world means a food-insecure world. By investing in a climate-smart future, moving away from fossil fuels, and recognizing the importance of gender equity, attendees and conscious citizens around the world can prevent hunger for generations to come. IHG Hotels & Resorts is committed to tackling hunger and food insecurity - that's why we partnered with Action Against Hunger over a year ago to support them in their life-saving work. Recently, some of our Southwest Asia leaders - Sudeep Jain, Deepali Bhardwaj and Rajni Gupta - visited Dr. R N Cooper Municipal General Hospital in Nehru Nagar, India, to see the positive impact that our partnership with is having first-hand. They met mothers and health workers, witnessing how early intervention and specialised care are helping children overcome severe malnutrition. Hearing directly from families about the impact of these initiatives was a powerful reminder of why our partnership matters. In just one year, our global partnership with Action Against Hunger has provided malnutrition screenings for over 4.5 million pregnant women and children under five, trained local health workers, and supported families in some of the world’s hardest-to-reach communities. Every effort counts - whether you donate points, volunteer, or fundraise, you’re helping us tackle food insecurity. Big ideas. Bold innovations. Real impact. Innovation, investment, and cross-collaboration are how we’ll win the fight against hunger. At the Innovation Showcase last week, we witnessed visionary changemakers redefining the future of food security — from Rivalz™, Simprints, and Solar Foods, to PharmaBox — each driving groundbreaking solutions that transform how we tackle malnutrition and build global resilience. As we heard from Jenny Thornton, Ralph Jerome, Maria Kasparian, Kevin Gosa and our colleagues at ACTION CONTRE LA FAIM (Caroline Antoine + Marie-Laure Oger) impact happens when innovation meets investment — when bold ideas connect with visionary funders, executives, and philanthropic leaders committed to ending hunger. The energy, the ideas, and the partnerships flowing — together, we’re shaping a future without hunger.
