Recent media reports of violations of the conditional and temporary ceasefire in Lebanon alongside new attacks in Gaza are extremely alarming. Israeli forces' airstrikes must stop immediately - we must not allow the hope of a definitive ceasefire to go up in smoke. A definitive ceasefire remains the only way to ensure that children are provided with the protection, and fulfilment of the rights that they are entitled to. The humanitarian situation remains desperate in Gaza. ➡️ We need immediate, unimpeded, safe, and sustained aid access. As winter hits, children are at high risk of malnutrition and illnesses like diarrhoea and pneumonia. 🗣️ We cannot go backwards. The bombs and bullets must stop alongside full aid access.

When storms in Northern Kenya destroyed the fishing nets that baby Lucy's family rely on, their income vanished. Now food is scarce, and some days the family eats only once. The lack of nutrition has severely affected Lucy’s health. She is malnourished and has also battled malaria and pneumonia. ➡️ In Sub-Saharan Africa, Pneumonia and Malaria account for 36% of deaths in children aged between 1 and 59 months. The majority of these deaths are preventable. With the right care and support, many of these lives could be saved. Lucy is now receiving lifesaving treatment from a Save the Children Emergency Health Unit outreach clinic. This care is helping her recover and grow stronger. This #WorldChildrensDay, let's remember that every baby deserves a safe start.

Nearly every child alive now faces at least one climate shock a year. Children born today will face 6.8x more heatwaves, 2.8x more crop failures, 2.6x more droughts, and 2.8x more floods in their lifetime compared to those born in 1960. 🗣️ At #COP30, this is what needs to happen: 🔴 Recognise children as a priority group in climate negotiations, policies, and finance. 🔴 Guarantee the meaningful participation of children in decision-making. 🔴 Phase out fossil fuels urgently and equitably, in line with the 1.5°C goal. 🔴 Invest in climate-resilient services – including health, education, water, nutrition, and child protection. 🔴 Increase research and address the data gaps to reveal the true impacts of climate change on children. The impacts of climate change on children are lifelong, irreversible, and deeply unjust. Children can't wait any longer for climate action.

One month after an agreed pause in hostilities in Gaza, children and families’ lives remain in limbo. People are unable to start repairs to homes without equipment and many are scared to move due to unexploded ordinance or the fear of further airstrikes. For children to have access to essential humanitarian aid and services, Israeli authorities must lift the siege and ensure all border crossings are open and fully operational, aid restrictions reduced, and services resumed. ➡️ Whilst we and other aid agencies are doing all we can to scale up assistance, the amount of aid entering Gaza is nowhere near enough to meet the needs of children and families facing their third winter since the war started. And with children now in their third year with no school, they are staring into their futures. 🗣️ The pause in hostilities must become an immediate and definitive ceasefire, as the only way to save lives in Gaza and end grave violations of children’s rights.

The first hours, days and months of life shape everything. Yet babies like Solange have spent their first months of life fighting preventable illnesses like pneumonia. And just when mothers and babies need help the most, some of the world’s wealthiest countries have cut their aid budgets. The consequences have been devastating.🚨 ➡️ Save the Children is delivering urgent care to mothers and babies around the world. Our maternity units and mobile clinics are saving lives every day. Together, let’s make sure that babies like Solange who made it through this year don’t just survive the next - they thrive.👉 https://bit.ly/4p9Peq5 #WorldPneumoniaDay

While the pause in hostilities is a crucial respite for children, it is not enough. The bombs need to permanently stop falling, aid needs to enter Gaza, and there needs to be a definitive ceasefire so that children are protected. Save the Children stands ready to scale-up and adapt our response to ensure that we can support and deliver life-saving supplies and treatment to children who desperately need it, wherever they are in Gaza. To be able to truly do that, a sustained surge in lifesaving humanitarian aid must be allowed to enter. While we continue to push for a definitive ceasefire, improved humanitarian access, and better protections for children, we are doing everything we can to provide essential support to families in need. Hear from our colleague, rachael cummings, who was recently in Gaza👇

Children can't wait any longer for climate action.🌎🚨 They are watching their homes and schools vanish in floods. They are going hungry as droughts decimate the crops their families rely on. Their health and their lives are threatened by rising temperatures and fast-spreading diseases. Around the world, children are raising their voices, sharing solutions, and demanding change. But governments and world leaders are not listening, and children continue to be overlooked in climate action. 🗣️ As #COP30 kicks off, leaders must finally turn promises into action and deliver the climate justice every child deserves.

Thirty years ago, the first World Summit for Social Development in Copenhagen set out a bold vision: 📌 That people and their dignity must be at the centre of social development, and called for a partnership between governments and civil society to eradicate poverty and achieve social justice. Three decades later, progress remains uneven, and for many children it has stalled or even reversed. 750 million children, or one third of the world’s children, will still live in multi-dimensional poverty in 2030.⚠️ Speaking this week at the #SocialSummit2025 in Doha, Inger Ashing, Save the Children International CEO, highlights the need of putting children first, delivering on every promise made in Copenhagen, in Doha, and in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and beyond. As we look ahead, the world must choose to expand social investment, embed accountability through civil society, and ensure that every policy, budget and partnership is judged by its impact on the lives of children.
