Simple practices can make the biggest difference. Kangaroo Mother Care provides warmth, improves feeding, and strengthens the bond between a caregiver and a newborn. In this video, our nurse demonstrates how KMC is practiced in the communities we serve. Action Against Hunger India remains committed to promoting essential newborn care during Newborn Care Week and beyond. As we mark #NewBornCareWeek, Dr. Baraturam Bhaisara, Addl. Professor and NICU In-Charge at HBT Medical College, and R N Cooper Muncipal General Hospital, reminds us that a newborn’s earliest days define their future. In this shared mission, Action Against Hunger Foundation has been supporting HBT Medical College, and R N Cooper Muncipal General through a dedicated Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) unit that guides mothers in giving their babies the best start. As we mark #NewBornCareWeek, we are reminded that the first 1,000 days, from conception to a child’s second birthday, shape their lifelong health and development. This period is when growth is the fastest, immunity is built, and emotional foundations are formed. Ensuring every newborn receives safety, quality, and nurturing care from the very beginning is essential for giving them the strongest start to life. Every parent is reborn with the birth of their child. Their smile, their laughter, bring a joy unlike any other. Today, we don’t just celebrate young children or a new born, we celebrate every age group, because for every parent, their child will always remain a child, no matter how old, grown, married, or independent they become. Happy Children's Day ❤️ from Action Against Hunger Foundation!! Vinay Iyer | Abhishek Dhotre | Rekha Ramesh (Ramakrishnan) | Mehar Grover | Roshni Vakilna PhD

Thank you, Sattva Consulting, for highlighting this critical issue. At Action Against Hunger Foundation, through our 1000 Days of Life, CMAM, Food Security & Livelihoods, WASH programmes, we have: - Screened 2.95 lakh children under five for early detection of malnutrition - Supported 2 lakh+ pregnant and lactating women with counselling on diet diversity, anaemia prevention, and IYCF - Improved nutrition outcomes across 9,500+ Anganwadi centres through behaviour change and systems strengthening - Trained 18,500+ frontline workers to enhance quality-of-care at the community level Looking forward to continued partnership and collective action for improved maternal and child nutrition across India.
Only *10.8% of children in India receive a Minimum Acceptable Diet. While data shows that India's U-5 nutrition has improved overall, anaemia, early diet quality, and gaps in frontline healthcare still require attention. To make progress on these fronts, solutions addressing malnutrition must be context-specific, inclusive, and effectively address the social determinants of health. We have outlined 6 interventions focused on improving preconception, IYCF, and maternal nutrition through education, routine screening, and community-led programmes. Read this report by Sattva Knowledge to explore these interventions further: https://lnkd.in/dMAufMUQ. We’re proud to share the inauguration and handover of 26 refurbished Anganwadi Centres across Dhar (Madhya Pradesh) and Gariaband (Chhattisgarh), creating safer, brighter spaces for 1,078 children to learn, play, and grow. The centres were inaugurated by SBI MUTUAL FUND along with Mr. Vinay Iyer, CEO, Action Against Hunger Foundation India. Since the refurbishment, attendance among children rose from 51% to over 80%, reflecting renewed community trust and engagement in early learning. A heartfelt thank you to SBI Funds Management Ltd. for their partnership and continued support in strengthening early childhood care and nutrition in rural communities. Together, we’re helping every child take the first step toward a brighter future.
