About us

Established in 1927, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is the oldest, largest and the apex business chamber in India. Our history is closely interwoven with India's independence struggle and now with her emergence as one of the most rapidly growing economies globally. FICCI has contributed to this historical process by encouraging debate, articulating the private sector’s views and influencing policy. A non-government, not-for-profit organisation, FICCI is the voice of India’s business and industry. FICCI draws its membership from the corporate sector, both private and public, including SMEs and MNCs; FICCI enjoys an indirect membership of over 2,50,000 companies from various regional chambers of commerce. FICCI provides a platform for sector specific consensus building, networking and as the first port of call for Indian industry and the international business community.

Four Labour Codes notified by the Government are indeed pathbreaking. These codes are forward looking reflecting the aspirations of Viksit Bharat, benefitting existing workforce, women, youth, gig and platform workers. Codes will go a long way in instilling investor confidence further in the country by creating more employment opportunities for our young, growing population. Also, Codes provide a robust framework for workplace safety: FICCI Vice President Mr Vijay Sankar #ShramevJayate Ministry of Labour and Employment, GOI

Yesterday, India consolidated 29 labour laws into four new Labour Codes — a significant step toward clarity for both employers and workers. The difference will be felt on the ground. Gig workers now have a path to social security, migrant labourers get clearer protections, and every employee receives an appointment letter. That last one sounds small, but try proving employment without documentation. The deeper signal here is a simple one — economic growth and worker protection aren’t trade-offs. They’re linked. For a region in transition, this is what progress should look like: building a more sustainable economy while ensuring the people who build it aren’t left behind. Thanks to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, GOI and FICCI for the collaborative effort. Progress happens when government, industry, and workers align. India’s workforce is its greatest asset. These codes recognise that. #India #LabourCodes #JustTransition #FutureOfWork #Sustainability #LabourLawIndia

Speaking at the DST-FICCI Workshop on National S&T Survey 2024-25 in Chennai, Mr. Bhupesh Nagarajan, Co-Chairman, FICCI Tamil Nadu State Council and CMD, Indira Group of Companies, said, “Initiatives like this workshop on the National Survey on S&T is extremely important, not only for the research community but also for the general public.  It helps us understand how much India is investing in research through DST and highlights the significance of industry participation.  I strongly encourage industry members to actively take part in this survey." r. Arvind Kumar, Advisor and Head of the National Science, Technology & Management Information System (NSTMIS) at DST, in his address, urged industrial groups to actively contribute data, emphasizing that higher response rates and greater data accuracy are crucial for the survey’s effectiveness. “While India’s Gross Expenditure on R&D investment in absolute terms has risen consistently—more than doubling over the years—the investment of industry in the R&D has historically remained low. Many industries are investing but not reporting their contributions to the government. This share must rise from the current 40% toward the global benchmark of 70%. In advanced economies, the corporate sector contributes nearly 70–75% of gross R&D expenditures, whereas in India it accounts for only about 36.5%. India’s overall R&D investment stands at around 0.64% of GDP. Bridging this gap is essential for achieving the nation’s innovation ambitions,” said Dr. Kumar.
