About us

The Property Council of Australia is the leading advocate for Australia’s second-largest industry. More than 1.4 million Australians are employed in the property sector - more than in mining, manufacturing and financial services combined. We champion a pro-investment nation to help deliver what Australians need - from homes and offices to shopping centres and logistics hubs. Our industry creates the places that power communities, shape our cities and grow our economy. Our Impact: We empower 2,600 member organisations to unlock opportunity, remove barriers and elevate the role of property in shaping Australia’s future. Our Advocacy: We lead evidence-based reform and shape policy to foster a stable, competitive environment for investment, planning and innovation. Our initiatives are co-designed with members, our Board and Division Councils - ensuring every effort delivers value and drives national reform. Our Value: We provide curated insights, strategic learning and powerful networks that enable members to grow, influence and lead. From sustainability and resilience to diversity and inclusion, we champion the priorities that matter most. Our Vision: Together with our members, allies and all levels of government, we are building a more liveable, sustainable and economically prosperous Australia. • Our International Study Tour travelled from Paris to Lyon today, jumping straight into the city’s impressive Confluence district, a former industrial precinct transformed into a benchmark for sustainable, mixed-use urban regeneration. We wrapped up with sweeping views from Fourvière and a great dinner together, ending the day with plenty of inspiration (and new ideas to bring home).

  • The third day of our International Study Tour offered incredible insights into how Paris is shaping the future of urban development. From exploring Station F and seeing how innovation and tech are driving city-making, to learning from Gecina about reimagining office spaces in the CBD and finishing with Covivio’s sustainable, people-focused headquarters, the day was full of ideas, inspiration and practical lessons for Australian property professionals. A big thank you to all the hosts who shared their expertise and gave us a front-row view of how sustainability, placemaking and innovation are transforming Paris. Excited to see what Lyon has to offer tomorrow.

  • Today’s deep dive into Paris infrastructure was nothing short of inspiring. We saw how the 2024 Olympic Village is being built not just for the Games, but for long-term community legacy. Then, at Nexity’s HQ, we got a behind-the-scenes look at their vision for future housing and urban design. In the afternoon, the tour of the Grand Paris Express took us through the scale and ambition of Europe’s largest transport project, from multimodal stations to sustainable placemaking. We rounded out the day with a powerful cultural moment at Notre-Dame, exploring heritage-led regeneration and how iconic landmarks can anchor future growth. The conversations and insights today will no doubt shape the way we think about infrastructure and development back home.

  • Australia’s purpose-built student accommodation sector is growing fast. Driving this growth? Government policy linking international student visa allocations to increased student accommodation. This has helped to unlock a 40,000-bed development pipeline, up from 36,000 earlier this year: · 12,522 in application · 16,366 approved · 11,202 under construction As Property Council Executive Director Torie Brown said, “The federal government has made clear it wants to see continued growth in student accommodation, and these latest figures show the approach is working.” The latest Urbis Student Accommodation Benchmarks, in partnership with the Student Accommodation Council, highlights how policy is shaping the future of student housing. • The Property Council’s Operational Benchmarks provide a current, independent view of real operating performance across commercial assets. With cost movements across energy, maintenance, security and services shifting significantly in the past year, relying on older data is increasingly risky.
