About us

At Mission Australia, we believe in hope and possibility for all. With more than 165 years of experience meeting human need, we are one of the largest and most trusted for-purpose community service and housing providers in the country. As a national non-denominational Christian charity, our values of respect, compassion, integrity, perseverance and celebration are at the heart of all we do. Every day, we deliver homelessness services, provide social and affordable housing, help families, children and young people thrive, improve mental health and wellbeing, support people with disability, provide pathways to employment and financial stability, strengthen communities, offer alcohol and other drug support, and more. Backed by our supporters, partners, funders and collaborators, we welcome and work alongside people and communities of all backgrounds, ages and beliefs who seek our support, providing excellent services and safe, secure homes that offer hope and lasting impact. With our evidence and courageous voice, we advocate for a fairer nation and better outcomes for the people and communities we serve. Guided by our bold Strategy 2030, we’re focused on delivering more safe, secure homes, expanding our impact and strengthening our organisation to meet the growing needs of people across Australia. Updates

  • Introducing the new Mission Australia website!   Anyone who has looked at our latest Annual Report online, released for yesterday’s AGM, will have noticed a huge change to the Mission Australia website.   Part of our Strategy 2030 is a commitment to nurture a resilient, high performing and forward-thinking organisation. One major step in achieving this has been the reimagining of the Mission Australia website into a sleek, future-ready and accessible platform that meets the needs of our stakeholders and impactfully tells the Mission Australia story.   After a two-year journey, we’re happy to announce our new website went live this month.   A special thanks to Ashleigh Dewar who has worked tirelessly to lead the project.   We hope you enjoy the new look – in many ways this is a beginning rather than an end to the journey, as we start to explore the exciting digital content it will allow us to create.   We hope you explore: https://lnkd.in/g4Vb6hR Sharon Callister Ben Carblis Anne-Marie Baker Andrew Sharkey Sally Ascroft Phil Chapman Marion Bennett Ben Williams

  • We’re proud to share that our NT Psychosocial Team, Thomas George, Bateren Ese, and David Ayambo were recognised at the 2025 NT Mental Health Awards at Parliament House in Darwin.     Nominated in the category of Integration & Collaborative Practice they received high praise from the Hon Steve Edgington, Minister for Mental Health for their participant-led, culturally responsive care and their deep commitment to the communities they serve.    From supporting complex recovery journeys, to helping people access vital services, and even offering a lift home during a storm, Thomas, Ese, and David consistently go above and beyond.    👏 Congratulations to this outstanding team. • We are delighted and very proud of Leana El-Hourani and the Mission Australia IT team, who were yesterday awarded the NFP Security Leader for 2025 at the prestigious Benchmark Security Awards. The Benchmark Security Awards are run jointly by iTnews and techpartner.news and celebrate leadership in cyber security across Australian businesses. Leana El-Hourani and the team received the award at a gala dinner held at Doltone House in Sydney, for their work around the Security Uplift Project. It’s great to see their hard work get recognition externally, for having made Mission Australia a safer digital place.

I recently joined Cara Varian, CEO of NCOSS, Yolanda Saiz, CEO of the St Vincent de Paul Society NSW, and other sector stakeholders in roundtable meetings with the NSW Treasurer and Shadow Treasurer, to advocate for reform of the state’s workers’ compensation system.  Change is needed. The sector is struggling to balance the high cost of insurance premiums and the costs associated with service delivery. We’re ready to work with the government and across parliament to find a solution that allows non-profits to continue delivering essential services while prioritising workers’ safety and care.  Read more in our joint op-ed: https://lnkd.in/ggDSxKXy  Paul Wright

  • At Mission Australia, our Lived Experience and Peer Workers provide empathy and insight by drawing on their personal journeys to support others facing challenges like mental health, homelessness, addiction, and recovery.    By sharing lived wisdom, insight and empathy, they build trust and help shape services that are more compassionate, inclusive, and effective.    This year our Lived Experience and Peer Workers from across Australia came together in person to connect and collaborate at our ‘Lived Expertise in Action’ forum.    We’re proud to see this workforce grow and thrive.
