Private companies now own and run 84% of beds in care homes in England used by older people, as local councils have almost totally withdrawn from a key area of social care they used to dominate.

Regularly keeping abreast of developments in the not-for-profit sector is something I believe to be a productive use of my spare time, especially as I maintain several active memberships within incorporated associations. Although likely being interpreted as arising from me having "too much spare time"—my search for a fulfilling job is ongoing—it can fall to those with the time to invest in reading to glean what others have missed initially. Consequently, gleaned from the latest edition of the Associations Forum's magazine, this featured article written by Raniya Dass from Governology has made me ponder the true value of individual members to associations.
