WA Health consists of the Department of Health, five Health Service Providers and Health Support Services.   • Exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic candidate to join the Environmental Health Directorate. The following position is currently available: ✅ Senior Scientific Officer (PSO SC Level 3) The Environmental Health Directorate is seeking to appoint a senior scientific officer to support the functions of the Health Facility Air Handling and Water Quality Advisory Committee. The Senior Scientific Officer will oversee monitoring, management, and remedial action of air handling and warm water systems for Legionella spp., and water testing in water distribution systems for microbiological and chemical contaminants. In this role, you will liaise with and provide high level technical and regulatory advice to the Managing Scientist Water, Executive Director Environmental Health Directorate, the Department of Health, other Government departments, industry, professional stakeholders, and the public on environmental health water issues. Families calling Healthdirect (1800 022 222) may be offered a WAVEDkids consultation, enabling clinical assessment, medication prescribing, and follow-up care – without a physical ED visit. Delivered by senior ED clinicians, WAVEDkids supports safe home management and ensures timely escalation when needed.   • The State Health Operations Centre (SHOC) has been shortlisted for two categories in the upcoming IPAA WA Achievement Awards on 12 December 2025. 🎉 The awards recognise outstanding work by individuals and organisations across all levels of public service in Western Australia. A nomination tilted the ‘Establishment of SHOC’ is a finalist for ‘Best Practice in Collaboration between Government and any other Organisation’.   • 🚑🏥 Exciting news for WA’s public hospital system! A major $1.5 billion investment is driving three significant new hospital projects: ✨ St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital pending the outcome of commercial negotiations, this site will transition to a public hospital in 2026, adding up to 100 new public beds, 8 operating theatres, and room for future expansion. ✨ Royal Perth Hospital will undergo a major redevelopment with a new six-storey block, featuring an expanded Emergency Department, dedicated mental health services, improved ambulance access, and space for growth. ✨ Peel Health Campus will be replaced by a brand-new six-storey hospital, including a 39-bay Emergency Department, cancer treatment facilities, mental health and palliative care units, a High Dependency Unit, and expanded inpatient/outpatient services. These projects form part of the largest hospital building program in WA’s history – $4.7 billion in total health infrastructure investment, including the new Women and Babies Hospital at Murdoch and the Bunbury Health Campus redevelopment.   • 🌟 Honouring Dr Andrew Robertson 🌟 After more than two decades of dedicated service, Dr Andrew Robertson will retire from his role as Chief Health Officer and Deputy Director General, Public and Aboriginal Health Directorate, on 27 February 202. Dr Robertson’s career has been defined by calm, steady and compassionate leadership through some of the most significant public health challenges in Western Australia’s history. From leading international disaster responses in the Maldives, Indonesia, Japan and Nepal, to guiding WA through the COVID-19 pandemic, his commitment to protecting community health has been unwavering. Beyond crisis leadership, Dr Robertson has championed prevention-focused public health policy, strengthened emergency preparedness, and advanced programs to improve Aboriginal health and health equity across WA. His service in the Royal Australian Navy and humanitarian deployments further highlight a career dedicated to protecting lives at home and abroad. We extend our deepest gratitude to Dr Robertson for his outstanding contribution to the health and wellbeing of Western Australians.
