Vale Warwick Olson World Vision Australia and the World Vision Global Partnership honour the life and legacy of Warwick Olson, whose visionary leadership shaped our mission for more than three decades. From the 1970s to early 2000s, Warwick helped build World Vision into a household name, introducing initiatives like the 40 Hour Famine, child sponsorship campaigns, and inspiring TV specials that mobilised thousands to respond to global need. His influence extended across the world, contributing to World Vision’s identity across the global partnership. As former World Vision Australia CEO and Chief Advocate Tim Costello said: “Warwick Olson’s work with the 40 Hour Famine ignited a movement of compassion that has transformed countless lives around the world. His faith and courage remind us that one person’s conviction can inspire generations, and his legacy of humility will live on in every life changed”. We honour his extraordinary contribution and give thanks for the countless lives touched through his work. On behalf of the World Vision Australia team, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Warwick’s family and loved ones and pray for comfort and peace for those who mourn his passing. Typhoon Kalmaegi has torn through the Philippines, unleashing torrential rain and severe flooding across the country’s central region and the island of Cebu. The death toll has risen to 110 and continues to climb. Hundreds of thousands of people have been forced from their homes as communities face decimated infrastructure and widespread devastation. For a nation all too familiar with disaster, the people of the Philippines once again face the challenge of rebuilding, showing extraordinary courage and resilience in the face of crisis. Typhoon Kalmaegi is expected to make landfall in Vietnam early tomorrow. Our thoughts are with the people of the Philippines, and we send strength and solidarity to our World Vision staff on the ground, themselves affected, who are providing support at this critical time. Strong partnerships empower remote First Nations communities. We are honoured to continue our journey with The Ian Potter Foundation, who have committed $2 million to phase two of our West Kimberley Early Childhood Care and Development Program. At the core of this program are community-led playgroups that promote “both-ways” learning. This approach to education celebrates culture and language, with First Nations and mainstream learning complementing and strengthening each other. Since 2018, The Ian Potter Foundation has been a valued partner to remote First Nations communities, walking alongside families through challenges like COVID-19 lockdowns and extreme flooding, and ensuring children have access to safe, nurturing environments to learn and grow. This renewed commitment is more than funding. It’s a powerful investment in children, families and their future. On behalf of the communities we serve, thank you to the Ian Potter Foundation for your trust and generous support. #Partnerships #Philanthropy #AustraliaFirstNations #WorldVision #WestKimberleyEarlyChildhood #ThrivingChildren #Playgroups

On Thursday, 16 October, the entire World Vision Australia team came together at NewHope Baptist Church, and virtually, for our annual Prayer Day – our yearly opportunity to connect around our organisational purpose and strategy. This year’s theme, “The Light of the World,” prompted reflection on how hope, compassion, and purposeful action can illuminate lives and communities. We were inspired by keynote speakers John Robertson (Global Leadership Network) and Alana Nicholls (Pro Purpose) who offered valuable insights by sharing their personal experiences with child sponsorship and emphasising the importance of collaborative efforts for greater impact. Thank you to CEO Grant Bayldon and WVI President Andrew Morley for delivering heartfelt messages to our staff, as well as Tony O'Rourke, Sloane Simpson, and the band for providing the musical entertainment. #WorldVision #OurPeople #MeetTheTeam #PeopleWithPurpose

"Do you know what the world needs?" asked A Current Affair’s Martin King. It needs more Tonys, and we couldn’t agree more. Last Saturday, Channel Nine featured award-winning agronomist and World Vision Australia Principal Climate Advisor Tony Rinaudo and his agricultural revolution, Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR), which has restored barren land and supported communities for over 44 years across 40 countries. 👇See Tony’s incredible story in action. #Agriculture #ClimateChange #ClimateAction #Reforestation *Video courtesy of A Current Affair / Channel Nine
