This week marked an important step forward in strengthening pathways to high-quality early learning for 𝗟𝗼𝗴𝗮𝗻’𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻. This work builds on the truth telling shared through Walking Together for Logan’s Children, which continues to guide how we listen, learn and act together. 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: https://lnkd.in/g-WN-EG7 Logan Together brought community, government and service partners together to examine the barriers families face and to co-design solutions that ensure every child can access the safe, high-quality early learning they deserve. The voices and leadership of the Mums n' Bubs Logan community continue to guide this work, reminding us that lived experience must remain at the centre of system reform. The data makes clear that we must act with urgency. Too many children in Logan are starting school developmentally vulnerable because our systems are not yet working in ways that support families early, equitably and well. As one community member reflected: "𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙠 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙤𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙪𝙨 𝙢𝙪𝙢𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙞𝙜𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙥𝙞𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙥 𝙛𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙤𝙛 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙬, 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙚 𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙖 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙩𝙧𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙤 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧" This workshop reaffirmed our collective commitment to that call for action. Last month, Leah Sanderson from NCQ headed to the Food Connect Shed in Salisbury (Jagera and Turrbal country) for deep conversation on the future of food systems and sovereignty, particularly in Southeast Queensland as we head towards the 2032 Olympic Games. The afternoon was facilitated by CSIRO, the Council of Mayors (SEQ), and the Food Connect Foundation, and the Shed was full of passionate growers, researchers, makers and community leaders discussing how we can co-create a food system that truly works for everyone. Some questions / reflections for Community and Neighbourhood Centres: 🌱 What is your organisation and/or community doing in relation to food sovereignty leading up to the 2032 Olympics and beyond? 🌱 How can local growers and businesses be supported to feed their / our communities? 🌱 The population of SEQ is growing faster than anywhere in Australia. What environmental, cultural and social considerations are being made in relation to things like urban farming, local businesses and community spaces? 🌱 How are communities involved in (and leading?) the dreaming and planning of current and future spaces? 🌱 Access to fresh and healthy food is THE priority for communities (consultation by Logan Together). The work continues across all regions of Queensland. Get involved in your NCQ Community Food Program, share your insights, and help shape a future where food is everyone’s business and responsibility. Pictured: Leah Sanderson (NCQ) sharing about the Community Food Programs across the state.

PhD • Strategic Lead for Social Impact & Global PI in Social Responsibility, Novo Nordisk

This week, together with Val Staikou and Ana Svensson, I've been fortunate to visit Logan, Australia, one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world - home to people from more than 230 different cultures. Invited by Logan Together, The University of Queensland, and the Logan Communities, I've experienced first-hand how respect, trust and intension is fundamental to ensure social cohesion, systems change and collective impact. As part our #CitiesforBetterHealth Programme, we are deep-diving in six cities in six countries (🇦🇺, 🇧🇷, 🇨🇦, 🇯🇵, 🇿🇦, 🇪🇸) to improve child health and well-being and create healthier communities for present and future generations through co-creation, multi-level solutions, a robust study design and impact framework based on best-practice evidence. In Novo Nordisk, we work in partnerships to defeat serious chronic disease, and the beauty of our partnership in Logan is the shared values around collective impact through a community-led and systems-thinking approach with health equity and children at the heart - founded on mutual trust, and respect. We are lucky to be supported by Delivery Associates, BIT and Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences - University of Oxford in this journey, and look forward sharing global data and insights in the near future. A highlight from this week was visiting Village Connect - a Pasifika Community Hub in Logan providing a wide range of impactful services for the Local Community. Most heartfelt gratitude to Dr Inez Fainga'a-Manusione and Heena Akbar for welcoming us to your home. • This week we had the privilege of welcoming Cairns South Together to Logan Together for a morning of shared learning, reflection, and connection. 𝗜𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 - it was true place-based work in action. We listened deeply, shared our experiences, and explored what it really takes to enable local leadership, community voice, and system change from place, for place. These peer-to-peer exchanges bring the network model to life - strengthening Queensland’s place-based ecosystem through relationships, learning and mutual support. 👣 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲-𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: https://lnkd.in/gkE-33aJ

Day 1 of 2! We’re celebrating Children’s Week QLD, Children's Rights Queensland and Play32 at the Childhood Summit 2025 – Loose Parts Play Festival! An outstanding group of PLAY Partners — Australian Institute of Play Wearthy @theoutsidersplayadvocates Logan Together, @thefamilyplace @curiousme, KENG KENG and Lions Clubs International came together to make this no-cost, child-directed play event possible. The atmosphere upstairs at the Childhood Summit was equally inspiring. Speakers of all ages and backgrounds shared deep reflections on the challenges our children face, while offering tangible stories of hope, leadership, and collective change. Special thanks to Marion Allard and our wonderful Bush Kindy families for co-creating a stunning community mural using natural materials — a joyful expression of imagination, belonging, and children’s right to play and self-expression. Looking forward to Day 2 — there’s so much more to come! https://lnkd.in/g3e8PUET #ChildrensWeekQLD #ChildhoodSummit2025 #PlayAdvocacy #NaturePlay #Community #BushKindy #EarlyChildhood #LoosePartsPlay

“How are the children doing?” is a traditional Maasai greeting that reflects the high value the Maasai people place on their children. Commission staff were challenged today to reflect on what it would look like if we measured the wellbeing of our community on the answer to this simple yet powerful message as they joined Logan children and sector professionals at the 2025 Childhood Summit - Through Their Eyes.   The summit is an incredible two-day conference that hands the microphone to children aged three to 14 years to have their say on the topics that matter to them. Speaking across a range of topics, from racism to mental health, addiction to respecting elders, the child-led conference is an opportunity for the adults to be the ones to turn their listening ears on, and to learn from the experts of their own lives – the children. – “Mental health isn’t a luxury item.” – Caleb – “I cannot and will not change who I am.” – Iepina – Respecting our elders is a “vital aspect of building compassionate and connected communities” – Kirra   Congratulations to Hyahno Moser and Australian Institute of Play for a wonderful event. Thank you to the more than 40 children who will take to the stage over this two-day event. Your bravery, truth-telling and ideas for a better future are something we will amplify through the work that we do. To the adults in the room, thank you for taking the time to listen and hold space for these incredible children.   In the words of conference rapporteur Michelle Lucas (Logan Together) “We’ve been looking for leaders and we’ve found them”.   ARACY Thriving Queensland Kids Partnership Griffith Institute for Educational Research The Salvation Army Communities for Children, Logan Grace Sholl Mayor Jon Raven Samantha Klintworth (Amnesty International Australia)

🌏 Kids Community of the World – Childhood Summit 2025 🌏 What an inspiring morning we had! It was a privilege for SSI to partner with the Australian Institute of Play and fellow sponsors to co-lead the Kids Community of the World session at the Childhood Summit — celebrating the powerful voices and cultural richness of our multicultural children. Diversity is our strength. However it can feel like two different worlds — our work is about bridging those worlds, creating spaces where every child feels seen, heard, and proud of their story. We lead with relationships first, ensuring communities feel culturally safe and children can share the power of their collective cultures. Today showed what’s possible when we do what it takes to make families and children feel they belong — not just in their communities, but in spaces like this summit. A heartfelt thank you to Racheal Kirabo Lauren Gill, Sahba Hamid and the SSI team for your dedication — from engagement sessions to mentoring and countless calls to families — you made this possible. To our partners Hyahno Moser, Ella and Jodie Booth, thank you for walking alongside us. And to the families — thank you for your trust, courage, and belief. You remind us why this work matters. And to the children — today, you spoke for yourselves, the power was felt in the room, we just gave you a platform 💛 Maribel Marquez Yamamah Agha Tariro Mapfumo Ghassan Noujaim Ben Fioramonte Emily Ellis Mindy Russell Violet Roumeliotis AM Penny Creamer Penny Goodall Violet Roumeliotis AM Luke Baker Luke Twyford Logan Together Queensland Family and Child Commission Thriving Queensland Kids Partnership The Salvation Army Communities for Children, Logan #ChildhoodSummit #Inclusion #Play #ChildParticipation #Community #SSI #collectiveimpact

Taking the time to ask, listen, and act on what children share is what builds stronger, more connected communities. At Logan Together, we’re proud to be part of a community movement that puts children’s voices at the centre. 🌟

Well we did it, we checked in with the children, and WOW. what a learning experience it was. It was truly magic and will continue to reverberate in the hearts and minds of all who were there in the room, especially the children. We would love to hear your feedback so we can improve and make this event the best it can be. Thank you those who attended the Childhood Summit 2025, close to 600 people across the 2 days. Sitting and deeply listening to our children and being part of the village they need. We hope you had a great time as much as we did! Below is an image of the concerns raised by the children this year, accompanied by the magic moment when brave Iepina shared his thoughts on 'ending racism now'.
