headspace Schools & Communities- Program Manager University Support Program

🎉Celebrating a major milestone for the headspace University Support Program headspace is proud to announce the launch of the second edition of Responding to Suicide: A Toolkit to Support Australian Universities. This updated resource includes a model articulation of suicide postvention, captured in a dynamic flywheel design that brings together: ❇️ Guiding principles of suicide postvention ❇️ Activities and interventions ❇️ A timeline of response to recovery This evolution reflects our commitment to supporting universities in creating mentally healthy university communities, and strengthening capacity to plan for, respond to, and recover from the impact of suicide. A heartfelt thank you to our external stakeholders, Georgina Hanna, Paula Diab, Laura Mulherin, and Dr Blake Hamilton, who joined our launch event and generously shared their insights and honest reflections on navigating these challenging situations and supporting their teams and university following the impact of suicide. Your contributions have shaped the depth and detail of this resource and strengthened its relevance for the sector. ✨ Many headspace minds have also contributed to this resource, and I would like to acknowledge their important contributions as well. 📑 Explore the toolkit and learn more about the program - https://lnkd.in/g2TN3Wim La Trobe University, Western Sydney University, RMIT University, headspace Camperdown. #HigherEducation, #MentalHealth, #SuicidePrevention, #SuicidePostvention

  • A fantastic first day was had by all at the headspace WA state meeting in Boorloo (Perth) on Whadjuk Noongar Country this week.  This gathering of headspace Centres and headspace National provided an opportunity for colleagues to collaborate, share knowledge and gain a deeper understating of what it's like to work within the special environment that is the Western Australian headspace Network. Plenty more yarning and collaboration to come!

We're pleased to launch the second edition of Responding to suicide: a toolkit to support Australian universities - a comprehensive, downloadable resource designed to help universities develop suicide response plans, respond confidently to critical events, and access practical, evidence-based guidance. • Congratulations to the First Peoples' Assembly of Victoria on the signing of Australia’s first ever treaty with Aboriginal people, which was formalised in law last Thursday, 13 November. 🖤💛❤️ This historic treaty for First Peoples means that the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria will now be a permanent representative decision-making body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Victoria.  “It’s a proud moment for Victoria and for First Nations people across the country and I'm sure it gives strength and hope to all young people.” - Daniel Knapp, Executive Director First Nation’s Wellbeing and Engagement at headspace.

  • To every parent or family member of a trans or gender diverse young person: we see you, and we understand how heavy the past few weeks may have felt. With changes in Queensland affecting access to gender-affirming care, it’s completely natural to feel a mix of emotions and concerns for the young person you love so deeply.    At headspace, we firmly believe in the power of gender-affirming care. It’s not just about medical treatment, it’s about giving young people the space to feel seen, accepted, and supported. This care has been shown to significantly reduce mental health struggles like anxiety, depression, and self-harm.    If you’re looking for guidance or someone to talk to, headspace is here to help. Whether you visit a local centre, reach out to our online support services, or simply explore the resources on our website, we’re here for you and your family. For further support, visit Transcend Australia: https://transcend.org.au/   You are not alone. Please reach out if you need support. 💚

  • 📢 Social media rules are changing for young people under the age of 16 in Australia from 10 December 2025. Parents and families, your support during this shift is key. Let’s discuss how to help them adapt smoothly.     We understand this might feel overwhelming or bring mixed emotions – and that’s completely normal. At headspace, we’re here to encourage caring and open discussions at home, helping young people feel respected and supported.      Start by showing curiosity and asking questions about how they’re feeling. This can also be an opportunity to discover new ways of staying in touch and finding the help they might need, both online and in everyday life.      You’re not facing this challenge alone. To make things easier, we have services ready to support you, such as online and phone mental health support services and online communities where you can join weekly peer group chats.      Find our social media ban resources here: https://lnkd.in/gasEjgXz     Let’s work together to make this change an opportunity for progress and stronger connections. 🤝

  • We’re thrilled to share that the headspace Career Mentoring program has been recognised with a 2025 Mentorloop Impact Award.  This global award celebrates mentoring programs that are inclusive, accessible, and delivering real-world impact, and we’re honoured to be one of just 23 programs recognised worldwide. During FY24-25, 181 young people took part in the program and the results have been incredibly encouraging:  - 100% of participants were satisfied with their mentor and would recommend the program  - 98.9% gained a clearer understanding of their career options  - 40% secured employment or started a new role while in the program  - 4.48 Mentoring Quality Score and 4.7/5 satisfaction rating Judy’s story is one example of the impact mentoring can have. A recent Master’s graduate feeling unsure of her next steps, Judy was matched with Frank, a delivery manager at a major tech consulting firm. “Frank gave me industry insights, advice on consulting and product analysis, and support I couldn’t find online. Thanks to him, I gained confidence and clarity — and landed a role as a business analyst aligned with my studies.” Judy’s story reflects the core of what headspace Career Mentoring is about: creating meaningful, accessible connections that empower young people to take the next step in their career journey. A huge thank you to our volunteer mentors, program coordinators, and partners who make this work possible. 💚 🔗headspace Career Mentoring program:  https://lnkd.in/ePWnNEFP  🔗 Learn more about the award and our impact: https://lnkd.in/e92qxzjR  #MentorloopImpactAwards #headspaceCareerMentoring #YouthEmployment #MentoringMatters #headspace
