As Australia's peak national non-government cancer control organisation, we are leading the change needed to reduce the impact of cancer now and in the future. Cancer Council leads national action to improve cancer control and care for people with cancer and their caregivers. Cancer Council Australia advises the Australian Government and other bodies on practices and policies to help prevent, detect and treat cancer. We also advocate for the rights of cancer patients for best treatment and supportive care. Our independence means we can direct our funding where it is most needed and influence the public agenda to improve outcomes for people with all types of cancer, and across all stages of the cancer journey. We work with our members (the eight state and territory Cancer Councils) to prevent and control cancer, and provide support for people affected by cancer. Two in three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime, yet our research shows that young Australians are less inclined to protect themselves during outdoor activities. Skin cancer is almost entirely preventable by using the five forms of sun protection: Slip into sun protective clothing, Slop on SPF50+ sunscreen, Slap on a broad brimmed hat, Seek shade, and Slide on sunglasses. Make sure to protect yourself when the UV is 3 and above ☀️ #NationalSkinCancerActionWeek #sunsafety

Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related death in Australia, and each year it takes the lives of too many. However, early detection and awareness can make a difference. 🔍 Know the signs: Persistent cough, unexplained shortness of breath, and chest pain are just a few of the early symptoms. If any of these sound familiar, speak to your GP—early intervention is crucial. For eligible Aussies, the National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP) is a free initiative from the Australian government designed to detect lung cancer before symptoms appear. Learn more about it here https://brnw.ch/21wX8T2 Queenslanders aged 50 – 80 years old who smoke but are looking to quit can join the Max Up Research Study (free smoking cessation and free lung cancer screening) – call Quitline (13 78 48) or visit this link https://brnw.ch/21wX8T3 #LungCancerAwarenessMonth #EarlyDetection #CancerSupport #LungCancerScreening
