GLOBE researchers Nisha Sharma and Prof Colin Bell, together with Prabhat Lamichhane from Latrobe University and Dr Penny Love from IPAN, have published insights on Nepal's growing reliance on packaged foods. “Although a quarter of Nepali children suffer from undernutrition or stunting, an increasing number are becoming overweight or obese. According to a UNICEF report, the number of infants and children under 5 who are overweight or obese is increasing at a rate of more than 3% every year from the current prevalence of 1.8%. That double burden of malnutrition—the presence of overnutrition and undernutrition—mirrors Nepal's ongoing shifts in diets from traditional, nutrient-rich foods to ultraprocessed, packaged products high in sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats.” Read the article: https://lnkd.in/gz8GxVtH Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN), Deakin University | Deakin Health | Deakin Research | Council on Foreign Relations

💡 Creating healthier futures is not an individual pursuit; it's something we need to do together. And preventing chronic disease and improving nutrition is not just a research challenge. It is a global mission. At the Global Centre for Preventive Health and Nutrition (GLOBE), we believe the most powerful solutions come when we work together. Our team draws on expertise across public health, nutrition, epidemiology, health economics and systems science to tackle obesity and create healthier environments for all. The real breakthroughs happen through partnership when universities, governments, communities and philanthropic supporters unite behind a shared vision. Together, we have advanced evidence-based policy, strengthened skills across sectors and driven innovation that empowers people to live healthier lives. And this is only the beginning. If you share our commitment to prevention and want to be part of something transformative, this is an invitation to join us. Let's combine our strengths and make lasting change, because a healthier future IS possible when we work together. 👉 Learn more and explore partnership opportunities: together.deakin.edu.au lnkd.in/gy8nvhxK

🌟 Introducing our new name! 🌟 Today, we’re stepping into a new phase of our story — and with that comes a new name. We’re proud to introduce you to Health Voices Victoria. When our strategy development co-design team arrived at this name, there was a shared strong feeling of alignment. We had landed on something authentic and enduring. Whether someone has navigated health challenges, cared for someone, advocated for change, or worked to improve others’ health and wellbeing, their voice matters. Our role is to bring those voices together and partner with others to make meaningful and lasting change. You’ll be used to seeing us look a little different, as the image below will remind you. From today, though, we’re no longer the Health Consumers Centre — this new chapter comes with a fresh look. While our appearance is changing, you’ll still recognise us in how we sound, the kinds of posts we share here, and, most importantly, our unwavering dedication to strengthening the engagement of communities and people with lived experience in health and related sectors. There’s a bigger story behind the change, and we’d love for you to read it. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eNV2h5VX

New research involving members of our team with UNICEF Europe & Central Asia has looked at the strategies used in online grocery settings in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and North Macedonia, finding that unhealthy foods are frequently promoted. To further understand why this is, interviews with local retailers explored what helps and what hinders the creation of online and in-store food retail marketing environments that support children’s rights ( 💡 marketing of unhealthy foods has been recognised as a violation of these), with profitability concerns and the influence of suppliers considered barriers. Strategies with less potential impact on profit margins, such as reducing the prominent placement of unhealthy items, were considered more feasible than addressing price promotions.
