Last week our State Radiographer Sarah hosted our annual Radiographer Forum at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. We provide free mammograms to eligible Victorians.
About us
BreastScreen Victoria invites women and the trans and gender community aged 50 to 74 without breast symptoms to have a free 10-min breast screen every 2 years. People between the ages of 40 to 49 and over 74 years are also eligible, however we recommend they speak to a doctor to decide if a breast screen is suitable. We have over 50 screening clinics, eight Reading and Assessment Services and two mobile screening vans. Clients are at the heart of the work we do to reduce the impact of breast cancer and save lives through early detection.

Today we were excited to be part of the Pink Ribbon Breakfast morning tea, hosted by Andrew Giles MP. Our Director of Communications and Client Engagement shared information about our life-saving program with community group leaders, educating them on the importance of breast screening. We also had the opportunity to answer questions and schedule appointments. 💕 It was wonderful to see the community so engaged and invested in their health. Thank you for having us! #BreastScreenVictoria

Today it's double the celebration with World Radiography Day and International Day of Radiology. Today and everyday we acknowledge the work of our incredible Radiographers and Radiologists and thank them for their expertise, care and commitment to our clients. ❤️ We asked some of our team to share what they want clients to know to help make the screening experience smooth and reassuring for all our clients. #BreastScreenVictoria

A new study from The Royal Melbourne Hospital led by Professor Bruce Mann in partnership with us, has confirmed what we’ve long known- that early detection of breast cancer leads to better health outcomes. This research shows that women who take part in regular breast screening are more likely to survive breast cancer and often need less intensive treatment when diagnosed. It’s a powerful reminder that early detection improves health outcomes and helps women maintain a better quality of life during and after treatment. “Our research shows the benefits are clear: women who take part in the BreastScreen Victoria program not only have a much better chance of survival, but often require less treatment if cancer is detected,” Prof Mann says. We're loving seeing our team get into the Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) spirit! We had a field of pink ladies, plus many of our clinics turned pink by spreading awareness and a bit of fun with their creative and bright decorations. 💗 We hope the decorations brought our clients some joy when arriving for their appointments. 🫶 A special thanks to our amazing team for getting involved in the BCAM spirit! #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth #BreastScreenVictoria [Image description: Image 1: A group of women standing together on green grass, Image 2, 3 & 4: BreastScreen clinics decorated in pink.]

Last week, we trialed our first Sensory friendly clinic, taking another step towards providing greater equitable access to our life-saving program for the Victorian community. ✨ During this trial we screened eight clients, each with varying sensory needs. One of our clients shared, “This initiative/process is so valuable. Thank you for making the mammogram experience a little less daunting. Much appreciated!”. We will review the outcomes of this trial to learn how we can better tailor our service to meet the needs of all our clients. On International Day of Rural Women, we recognise the importance of access to healthcare for every one. 💗 🌻 Our free breast screening program is available to women across Victoria. We have 55 permanent clinics plus our 2 mobile vans that travel far and wide to ensure rural and regional women can access a free, 10 min breast screen closer to their home, and receive the same level of care. Pictured here is our van Marjorie, named after Marjorie Dalgarno - an Australian radiologist and pioneer of mammography. Our Marjorie van has the same equipment as our permanent clinic, and also has wheelchair access at the rear of the van making it accessible to all. To find out when our Nina and Marjorie vans will be in a town near you, click the link below. #BreastScreenVictoria Learn more: https://bit.ly/3CXxwxX [Image description: Image 1: Pink BreastScreen Victoria van with white text that reads "Are you due for a breast screen?" with coloured graphics, Image 2: Radiographer standing inside the van next to a mammography machine, Image 3: Rear of pink van with white text that reads "Are you due for a breast screen?" and the BreastScreen Victoria logo and wheelchair access logo.]
