What Is SASE
February 2021
Network Bliss
SASE
The term SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) was coined by Gartner
analysts Neil MacDonald and Joe Skorupa in late 2019. It refers to a
cloud-delivered service that combines network functions (SWG, CASB,
FWaaS, ZTNA, etc.) with networking functions (primarily SD-WAN), thus
making up the next generation secure access tool.

By 2024, at least 40% of enterprises
will have a strategy to adopt SASE.

THE 3 CHARACTERISTICS OF SASE
It converges networking and security functions
1
It relies on identity as currency
2
It applies real time context and security policies
3

WHY DO WE NEED SASE
The enterprise is becoming increasingly distributed (people
working from home, edge computing, cloud adoption)
1
2
3 The modern, distributed enterprise needs a new, more
flexible consumption model for connectivity and security
Old centralized hardware (e.g. the firewall/VPN) at the data
center is becoming ineffective and obsolete

THE ANANDA NETWORK APPROACH TO SASE
You cannot solve a distributed problem with a centralized solution.
The distributed enterprise requires a distributed solution
1
2
3 Enterprises need a flexible, cloud-based consumption model
Security and networking solutions should not be afterthoughts.
They should be built into the network fabric
4
The siloed approach to connecting and securing different types of
network traffic (remote access, inter-branch, cloud, LAN, etc.)
should be replaced with a unified solution
