LinkedIn users in the United States. LinkedIn is growing at a rate
of 2 new users per second
• 40 % of LinkedIn users check in daily
• 13 % of LinkedIn users are millennials (15-34 years of age)
• LinkedIn user is 11 times more likely to have profile viewed if there
is a profile photo
• A average LinkedIn user has 930 connections
• Average user spends 17 minutes a month using LinkedIn

• Set strong privacy controls to social media profiles,
especially Facebook

Getting started in
LinkedIn
Step #1: Establish Account
1. Enter name (first, last)
2. Enter e-mail address
3. Establish password
Step #2: Build Profile
1. Upload a professional photo (headshot)
• Dress professionally/appropriately –
consistent with occupation
• Good quality photo – clear
• Appropriate background
• Good smile, exuding confidence
• Keep it simple (no pets, other people)
• Select a recent photo
• Be consistent (use photo across social
media platforms)

2. Develop a skills based headline, not job titles

• Tell a story – what do you want others
to know about you. A strong summary
should highlight your value.

• Can mirror your resume, but does not
have to read exactly like the resume.
• Develop a brief position overview and
highlight your accomplishments
