You don’t have to understand Flemish to be amazed😱 Belgium inaugurated its longest tunnel built in history, connecting both sides of its port area across (under) the River Scheldt, for the flow of steam to move and generate sustainable energies. It’s in place to reduce the port operations’ CO2 levels by 50%. It is one of the largest industrial steam networks in Europe and began in 2019 💨They bored this tunnel without even digging slots - a technique called “micro-tunneling” was more effective.
Belgium’s longest microtunnel is now a reality! A brand-new tunnel beneath the River Scheldt now connects the left and right banks of the Antwerp port area. Through this technical feat, the ECLUSE network will soon supply sustainable steam from the waste-to-energy plants of Indaver and SLECO in Doel to Evonik on the right bank. This expansion marks an important step towards a low-carbon energy supply for our port. The steam will enable an additional annual reduction of 100,000 to 150,000 tonnes of CO₂ – equivalent to the energy consumption of more than 38,000 households. The 1,288-metre-long tunnel, the longest ever built in Belgium, was officially inaugurated today by Flemish Minister of Energy and Climate Melissa Depraetere, together with our partners from ECLUSE. A fine example of public-private collaboration between Indaver, SLECO, FINEG, Maatschappij Linkerscheldeoever (MLSO), Evonik and Port of Antwerp-Bruges, with the support of the Flemish Government. Together, we are building a sustainable, future-oriented port. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/ecakngtx. #ECLUSE #Energietransitie #SustainablePort #Samenwerking #PortOfAntwerpBruges #Innovatie

🌎𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀? The world is shifting from producing cheap to producing better, from efficiency to responsibility. #Greenshoring means being globally competitive with a low carbon and #waterfootprint, combining productivity, innovation, and growth. In his recent column, Alessandro Semeria, Director of Circular Economy Safety Operations at Edison Next, rightly emphasized how crucial effective waste management has become for a sustainable industrial future. At ETAK, we fully share this vision - but we are already turning it into action. Our proprietary thermochemical reactor converts mixed waste directly into clean, high-calorific syngas, providing an immediate energy output instead of sending waste to landfills. This approach creates new value within the waste management value chain, transforming what was once a cost into a source of clean energy and revenue. We believe such solutions can strengthen the capabilities of sector leaders like Edison Next and are ready to collaborate on pilot projects that make the circular economy truly complete and energy-efficient. #EdisonNext Alessandro Semeria
