👟 Sustainability in Action!🌍 A great note From Pitlochry High School Our P5 class had an inspiring visit from the Sustainability Academy to support their project on recycling shoes. Pupils learned about different types of fabrics, including mono-materials, which are easier to recycle, as well as natural vs. man-made materials. They explored key concepts like circular recycling and cradle-to-cradle, discovering how products can be reused and repurposed instead of ending up in landfill. The session also highlighted the challenges of recycling shoes — did you know less than 5% of shoes are recycled? Pupils reflected on how every step we take can make a difference through the 10 Rs of sustainability. It was a fascinating, hands-on experience that inspired our young learners to think about how they can make a positive impact on our planet. Receiving stickers for being Sustainable Earth Stewards... we look forward to seeing P5's ideas for sustainable shoes for the future Reduce reuse recycle! #DYWTayCities The Sustainables Academy https://lnkd.in/esCHGqmi

With Abieny, we act based on circular strategies, so let's talk about the science behind! 🔬 Thanks to the incredible work of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, the concept of circular economy has quickly spread through society. In 2017, Potting et al. laid the final foundations for the definition of circular strategies known as 'regenerative', aka. the "10-R Frameworks": ▶ R0 - Refuse: Do not produce or consume what is unnecessary. ▶ R1 - Rethink: models by designing products for multiple lifecycle scenarios. ▶ R2 - Reduce: resource use (energy, materials, water). ▶ R3 - Reuse: products or components as they are. ▶ R4 - Repair: to extend product lifespan. ▶ R5 - Refurbished: Restore to like-new condition (cleaning, upgrading). ▶ R6 - Remanufacture: Disassemble and rebuild for use equivalent to new. ▶ R7 - Repurpose: Reassign a product to a new use ▶ R8 - Recycle: Transform waste into new raw materials. ▶ R9 - Recover: Recover energy or residual materials (incineration, composting). While these strategies continue to evolve, they provide powerful guidelines for action. At Abieny, we translate these guidelines into practical steps for the hardware industry to connect economic impact with product design choices. Test this with our simulator now online! 🚀

🌍 ZWC proudly launched the Circular Gallery initiative across Delhi Government Schools — an innovative program designed to spark creativity, responsibility, and real-world circular thinking among young students. Through this initiative, our team works closely with students to reimagine discarded materials, guiding them to transform waste into functional, meaningful exhibits. Every workshop becomes a hands-on learning journey where children explore how everyday waste can be redesigned, repurposed, and reintegrated back into the system. By teaching circular thinking at this early stage, we aim to build a generation that doesn’t just talk about sustainability — but actually practices it. A generation that sees value where others see waste. A generation that believes solutions can be created with their own hands. The Circular Gallery is more than an exhibit; it’s a mindset shift. It’s about empowering students with practical skills, nurturing problem-solving abilities, and showing them that sustainable change begins with small, thoughtful actions. ✨ At ZWC, we’re committed to shaping young minds into tomorrow’s circular leaders — one idea, one material, and one inspired student at a time.

https://lnkd.in/eaepBuSH ♻️ America Recycles Day How The Sustainables Circular Economy Helps Us Explore, Understand and Protect Our Biosphere Today is America Recycles Day — a reminder that every resource we have is all we have. At The Sustainables, we believe recycling is only one part of a much bigger picture: a truly circular economy where materials, energy, and ideas stay in the loop for as long as possible. To support educators, families, and communities, we teach four simple but powerful concepts: 🔍 Explore Understanding Children and adults learn to look more closely at the materials around them — where they come from, how they’re made, and the impact of their journey. Understanding leads to wiser choices, and wiser choices create stronger stewards. 🕊️ End of Life Nothing should simply be “thrown away”. At the end of its first life, a product becomes a question: Can we repair it? Share it? Break it down into something new? Teaching this mindset is key to reducing waste and protecting our biosphere. 🔄 Cradle to Cradle Instead of linear “take–make–waste” thinking, we teach pathways where materials return safely to nature or the economy. Designing with the next life in mind is how we move from sustainability talk to sustainability action. 🔁 Keeping Resources in the Loop From metals and plastics to soil, energy, and water — nothing is infinite. Keeping materials circulating supports the planet and children’s climate mental health by replacing fear with practical, hopeful solutions. At The Sustainables Academy, our message is clear: 🌍 Our biosphere is finite. 🌱 Every resource we have is all we have. 🚫 Don’t waste it. Today, on America Recycles Day, let’s celebrate recycling — but let’s also look wider, plan smarter, and teach the next generation a circular way of thinking that protects both the planet and their future.

The Top 5 Barriers Holding Back Reuse Adoption Everyone agrees that reuse should come before recycling, but turning that idea into practice isn’t always easy. From our work across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, we see five main challenges that recyclers and ITAD companies face: -Lack of clear regulations and standards across regions -Limited access to efficient technology and software -Concerns over data security and consumer trust -Difficulty in building reliable resale channels -High upfront investment and operational know-how At The Reuse System, we believe these barriers are not roadblocks but opportunities. With the right tools, partnerships, and training, reuse can move from “optional” to “essential” in the circular economy. How do you see these challenges playing out in your market?

🇪🇺 From Good Intentions to Good EU Regulations The PRO Circularity Alliance is pleased to have contributed to this year’s The RDS Circular Economy Day in Dublin. In his talk our Policy Director Dr. Tom Voege explored how EU circular economy policies are evolving and what it takes to turn ambition into effective implementation: ✅ What is (and isn’t) the circular economy? Clarifying definitions and debunking misconceptions that often cloud public and policy debates. ✅ From design to renewal: how EU regulation is embedding circularity at every stage, from product design to end-of-life and material recovery. ✅ Ecodesign and right-to-repair: new measures that promote durability, repairability, modularity, and access to repair information and spare parts. ✅ Critical raw materials and competitiveness: the role of CRMA in balancing domestic extraction, recycling, and EU strategic autonomy. ✅ Producer responsibility as a policy driver: why EPR is central to achieving circular goals, with examples from batteries, textiles, and electronics. We extend our thanks to the organisers for the kind invitation and for curating such a thoughtful programme bringing together researchers, entrepreneurs, and policymakers under one roof!

♻️ New position paper: CECOP responds to European Commission consultation on the Circular Economy Act Cooperatives play a strategic role in Europe’s circular economy. Sustainability is not just a practice for cooperatives, but a defining characteristic. Among the cooperatives affiliated with CECOP, many operate in key circular sectors, including waste management, waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), reuse and recycling, and the construction sector. Due to industrial and service cooperatives’ commitment to circularity, they constantly innovate both in terms of technological development and cooperation with public or private partners. Furthermore, as cooperatives are deeply embedded in the local economy and are accountable to the community, they are committed to the sustainable development of their environment and local community. Industrial and service cooperatives are therefore core partners in advancing several of the EU’s priorities in terms of circularity. CECOP welcomes the proposal for a Circular Economy Act, but calls for a holistic perspective. To achieve this, the following recommendations must be taken into account: 🔸 Recognise and support cooperatives active in the circular economy 🔸 Provide financial support to cooperatives active in recycling and reuse 🔸 Support training opportunities 🔸 Ensure social and environmental criteria in public procurement Read more on our position paper 👉 https://lnkd.in/ddmyw-M9
