The shutdown may be over, but its aftershocks are shaping one of the most important meals of the year. We surveyed 1,500+ SNAP recipients on November 18–19, and the findings are stark: 🦃 85% of families say the shutdown changed their Thanksgiving plans. More than 54% aren’t confident they can afford a holiday meal at all. 💳 Recovery is slow. Nearly 40% expect it will take 1–3 months to financially recover — and 8% say it will take more than six months. 🥫 Households are still in crisis mode. In the week leading into Thanksgiving: • 49% didn’t have enough food or money for basic needs • 47% borrowed from friends/family • 47% visited a food pantry • 43% skipped meals Families shared stories of repossessed cars, skipped meals, and having to choose between a Thanksgiving dinner and keeping the lights on. One parent told us: “I had to spend my thanksgiving funds for food in November to cover until we got food stamps… So no Thanksgiving for this family.” The shutdown may have ended, but for many SNAP recipients, recovery is far from complete. Their resilience is extraordinary, but the strain they’re carrying is real, and ongoing. Full report here: https://lnkd.in/ggDPqGBj #SNAPMatters #GovernmentShutdown #FoodSecurity #SocialImpact

With SNAP now fully funded and deposits flowing again, our emergency fundraiser with GiveDirectly has come to a close. Together, we were able to send almost $12 million directly to nearly 240,000 Propel users. That support added up to an estimated 4.4 million meals—meals that might otherwise have been missed. It doesn’t erase the impossible choices families have been navigating, but it made a real and immediate difference. You can read more about families’ experiences here: https://lnkd.in/eyJZ8aAh A huge thank-you to every donor and partner who stepped up in this moment, including Robin Hood, Share Our Strength, The Leon Levine Foundation, New York Health Foundation, Savvy, Insurify, byMae, and Babylist. We’re deeply grateful. #SNAPMatters #GovernmentShutdown #FoodSecurity #SocialImpact

Can't say it better than this==> Thank you Fauna for sharing your story with us! Thank you GiveDirectly for your partnership in helping to meet this crisis head on. #GovernmentShutdown #FoodSecurity
The shutdown is finally over, and millions of families who still haven't gotten their November SNAP benefits should finally see deposits show up quickly. Propel, Inc's relief campaign ended up raising over $12M, sending $50 payments to families across the country. Fauna was one of the beneficiaries, and she shared her story with us. Watch below, and read more at https://lnkd.in/eCRkA-hw. The last 13 days have been tough for so many low income families. If there is any silver lining, it's that much more of this country understands just how important SNAP is. In 10 years working on Propel and around SNAP, I've never seen so many headlines, gotten texts from so many friends, or felt like our mission was quite as visible. https://lnkd.in/ehiis2g7 #SNAPmatters

The end of the #GovernmentShutdown appears to be near & our data shows more states rolling out partial payments in compliance with USDA's most recent directive. Critical relief for families facing long delays and extreme food insecurity. SNAP is at the center of the political conversation right now, and the situation is changing by the minute. Meanwhile, millions of American families are stuck in limbo, still waiting for their full or even partial benefits. Thank you to Don Lemon for featuring Propel CEO Jimmy Chen on The Don Lemon Show to highlight our important work with GiveDirectly. They discussed: • 🧾 The impact of SNAP delays on families • 🥫 The role of food banks in filling the gap • 🛡️ Why nothing can replace SNAP — and why it must be fully funded #SNAPMatters #GovernmentShutdown #FoodSecurity #SocialImpact You can watch more here: https://lnkd.in/dc7cqx3J

Nearly 60% of #EBTTheft occurs on deposit day. ~85% happens within a few days of deposit day. We are thrilled to see full #SNAPmatters deposits landing in states across the country, and look forward to EVERYONE receiving their full November SNAP benefit as soon as possible. However, organized crime rings are waiting too. 50% of Propel users have at least one security feature enabled. We've worked hard to help people protect themselves, but there's so much more to be done. SNAP recipients: 🔒 Lock your EBT card when not in use 🛑 Enable out-of-state transaction blocking 📱 Activate all available security features If you work with SNAP recipients, please share this message. Every secured account is one less victim. While we continue our work to #EndEBTTheft systematically, immediate action is essential today. #GovernmentShutdown #FoodSecurity

8+ million households have missed their #SNAP deposits so far this month. We’ve enrolled more than 70,000 families and raised more than $12.5M to help meet the vast need, in partnership with GiveDirectly. A few states have started making partial SNAP payments. Late last night, USDA issued new guidance. The new guidance will allow for more generous payments, and fewer households will receive $0 from the partial payments. This is good news–but it also means new challenges for states working to implement these altered payments, and more delays for families in need. We’ve raised $10M+, and enrolled more than 55K families in our #GovernmentShutdown #SNAP relief fund with GiveDirectly. That is incredible, and a testament to the generosity of our many donors, thank you! However, the need continues to grow. Before today is over, 7.6M households will have missed deposits. Some states are beginning to suggest that partial deposits could begin to land, but not until next week in the earliest cases. Millions of families can't wait. Every donation provides direct cash relief to families facing impossible choices—between groceries and rent, medicine and meals. Thank you to Maria Aspan & NPR highlighting our partnership with GiveDirectly to support families missing SNAP deposits. Why does this matter? When SNAP benefits are delayed—even by just a few days—the impact on vulnerable families is devastating. As our CEO Jimmy Chen explains: "Their budgets are already extremely tight. There's usually not a lot of wiggle room. So a delay of even a few days on an expected deposit ends up being a really, really huge deal." You can help.
