  • Yesterday, the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office along with members from Fire/EMS, the Police Department, and County leadership attended a ceremony to honor Deputy Archer T. Belcher—the first documented Chesterfield Sheriff’s Deputy killed in the line of duty—by renaming a road at the new Deep Creek Middle School. Deputy Belcher, a farmer and part-time deputy, was attacked by inmates while supervising a work crew in 1912 and later passed away from his injuries. His name is remembered on both the National Law Enforcement Memorial and the Sheriff’s Office Memorial at the historic courthouse. In recognition of his sacrifice and service, “Academic Way” has been officially renamed in his honor.

  • November is National Diabetes Month, when communities nationwide team up to bring attention to diabetes. Every year’s focus is on managing diabetes by building your healthcare team. Diabetes is a disease that occurs when your blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high. It affects about 37 million Americans, including adults and youth. Diabetes can damage the eyes, kidneys, nerves, and heart and is linked to some types of cancer. Working with healthcare professionals who can offer you the personal care you need may help improve your health. And while it takes a team to manage diabetes, remember that you are the essential participant in your diabetes care. #diabetes #awareness #together
