Sunday, 19 October, marked a special day for the TAB brand, and the wider New Zealand racing industry. On 19 October 1950, the Totalisator Agency Board (TAB) was established, dawning a new era in racing and betting in New Zealand. Retail stores soon followed in the next few months and, as the years rolled on, 'new' products like quinellas, trifectas and trebles came on board - only one a day for a while, mind you! Now, 75 years on from the TAB coming into existence, we're marking the momentous occasion over the next couple of weeks. Look out for the hype reel across our social channels, and TAB customers can enter a quiz to win Bonus Cash, or their share of raceday or sporting experiences across New Zealand. The TAB Racing Club (TRC) has proved to be a big hit, with more than 15,000 TAB customers joining up since its launch last September. The club's purpose is to drive engagement within the industry for customers through attendance & participation to encourage horse ownership, and we've already had more than 1000 customers join us for on-course functions, as well as behind-the-scenes tours of stables and breeding farms. Sharing the horses' journey towards raceday and beyond is a major part of the club's success, and this latest video provides some insight into the enthusiasm, expertise and open lines of communications the club's trainers have brought to TRC. Aurora Storm is back at the races tomorrow, and we look forward to even more of the TRC equine graduates hitting racetracks across New Zealand next spring and summer. Last Friday, we took a a lucky group of TAB Racing Club (TRC) customers behind the scenes on our Club's first Stable and Stud Tour. The day kicked off with breakfast at Shaun Ritchie and Colm Murray's barn in Cambridge, where we caught up with promising TRC filly, Transcend, then it was off to Windsor Park Stud to meet their stallions and hear about the workings of this leading NZ breeding operation from stud master Rodney Schick and his team. The day ended with a tour of the iconic Cambridge Stud from the stud's bloodstock manager Cameron Ring, with the world-class Heritage Centre a highlight for many. Check out the highlights below and sign up to TRC today at tab.co.nz/racing-club for the chance to join us on our next Stable and Stud Tour, as well as many other memorable experiences like these! We’re lucky to have TAB customers of all ages around New Zealand, but Mosgiel’s Rosabel Lott leaves most of them in the shade. When we read about Rosabel’s love of racing and having a bet with TAB in a story about her 100th birthday in the Otago Daily Times last week, we couldn’t let the occasion go past without recognising one of our most experienced customers. Jordan Wichman from our South Dunedin store visited Rosabel this week with a $100 betting voucher which, by all reports, she’s itching to spend. Rosabel sounds like a terrific character, judging by last week’s story, which is well worth a read. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/gKz5vXYV

Outstanding Australian-based three-year-old galloper Evaporate (NZ) is heading to New Zealand to add a sizzling trans-Tasman edge to the brand-new slot race, The NZB Kiwi, at Ellerslie Racecourse on 8 March. Evaporate, a son of Little Avondale Stud’s sire Per Incanto, will run in the TAB slot for Entain Australia & New Zealand, in the 1500-metre feature on Champions Day. It's a real coup to get such a well-credentialled Australian-trained thoroughbred to New Zealand for the big race and we can't wait to team up with the owners of Evaporate, and the trainers Ben, Will and JD Hayes, for the Southern Hemisphere's richest race for 3-year-olds on March 8.
