We had the privilege of presenting Helen Dalton MP, Member for Murray, with the 2025 Uniting Political Courage Award. The award honours leaders who act with integrity, listen closely to their communities and take principled action even when it is inconvenient or unpopular. In her remarks at the Rev. Harry Herbert Oration, Helen spoke openly about what political courage really means. She described it as standing with people, not against anyone, and being willing to act when communities are being harmed. She reminded us that speaking up should not require courage. It should be part of how we look after one another as Australians. Leadership, she said, is often the quiet decision to do what is right, guided by compassion and evidence. Helen’s advocacy for regional communities affected by gambling harm reflects exactly what this award seeks to recognise: courage, integrity and a commitment to people’s wellbeing. Congratulations, Helen. 🎊 #WeAreUniting #PoliticalCourage #AusPol #SocialJustice #NFP

Today, on #UniversalChildrensDay, we stand with Association of Children's Welfare Agencies, Life Without Barriers and partners across the child and family sector for #RespectInAdvocacy. Sharing the personal stories of children, young people, or families in care without consent is never OK. Advocacy must protect, not exploit those we support. We reaffirm our shared commitment to privacy, consent, and respect in all storytelling, advocacy, and sharing of lived experience. #ProtectDontExploitChildren #RespectChildrenInAdvocacy #RespectYoungPeople

This World Children’s Day, we recognise every child’s right to have a safe, healthy and happy life. At Uniting, the rights and voices of children run through all the work we do with communities. In our mental health programs for young people and families, we place particular importance on elevating the voice of the child. Our clinicians talk about the five aspects of the voice of the child. We aim to: ⭐ Find the voice of the child through therapeutic relationships ⭐ Listen and allow the child to feel safe and heard ⭐ Empower children to share their voice ⭐ Sustain a child’s voice by supporting their ability to express themselves ⭐ Advocate for children by walking alongside them. By honouring the voice of children, we can help achieve better outcomes for our future generations. Learn more about our commitment to child wellbeing at Uniting: https://lnkd.in/gHZTSaVp

Supporting older Australians to stay active, connected and independent. Meet Elly Williams, Service Manager for Uniting Seniors Gyms. She started when there were just two gyms and four staff. Today, there are 10 gyms and more than fifty dedicated professionals helping older adults stay strong, confident and engaged in their communities. “Our work changes lives,” says Elly. “People who couldn’t get out of a chair can now walk to the shops or have coffee with a friend. The changes we see are much more impactful than in a healthy population.” Uniting’s Seniors Gyms are led by exercise physiologists and specialist staff who design personalised programs to improve strength, balance and wellbeing. Positive ageing starts with the right support and a team that cares as much as Elly’s does. #WeAreUniting #SeniorsGym #HealthyAgeing #ExercisePhysiology #AgedCare #PositiveAgeing

It was a pleasure to have NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon visit the Medically Supervised Injecting Centre today. As one of the licensees of our service in Kings Cross, it was excellent for him to see how MSIC operates, meet the team, including our lived experience advocate Kevin, and talk about why we need more evidence-based, life-saving services like this. #CommunityFirst #Collaboration #SocialImpact #HealthCare #HarmReduction Alice Salomon Alexandra Hogan Alex Greenwich MP Marianne Jauncey NSW Health NSW Police Force Mal Lanyon @KevinStreet

This will save lives. The groundbreaking results from Australia’s first injectable opioid treatment (FOpIT) trial are in, offering powerful new hope. This is a new, evidence-based pathway for people with opioid dependence, a group for whom standard treatments sometimes aren't enough. Why is this so important? Opioids are the single most common drug type in unintentional overdose deaths, contributing to nearly half of all such deaths in 2023. The trial was a partnership between Uniting NSW.ACT, St Vincent’s Hospital, and UNSW, and the outcomes showed that this new treatment is both safe and feasible. It is a proven, health-based solution that offers new hope where punitive policies have failed. Best of all, it received "near universal praise" from participants, who described the programme as a "godsend." #PublicHealth #HarmReduction #OverdosePrevention #OpioidCrisis #AustralianHealth #UNSW #StVincents #Uniting #NewHope UNSW UNSW Medicine & Health St Vincent's Health Australia St Vincent's Hospital Sydney undefined Andrew Bradley Marianne Jauncey Emma Maiden
