Student Spotlight Meet Joseph Zhu, a UNSW Medicine & Health student combining medicine and tech. Joseph is studying Medicine and Computer Science at UNSW. His goal? To help new technology reach patients faster. That idea started after meeting a patient who ignored her heart symptoms for too long, and later experiencing firsthand how complicated and expensive it was to access a Holter monitor. It led him to create Everywhere Health, a project focused on building an affordable, easy-to-use ECG monitor. Since then, he’s gone from his first pitch at Hult Prize 2025 @ UNSW to winning 1st place at the BYO Innovation Challenge, delivered in partnership with Faculty of Medicine & Health. All while balancing two full-time degrees and a part-time job. 💬 “Nobody really knows exactly what they’re doing, regardless of how confident they might seem on stage. The most important step is just to try, there’s nothing to lose.” With support from UNSW Founders programs and mentors like Julie, Georgia, Dr Joseph and Mariana, Joseph and his team are now preparing to test their prototype and keep improving it.
