We're proud to, once again, fundraise for our Ampol Foundation charity partner, Surf Life Saving Foundation, across our Ampol Foodary sites until December 2nd.    All funds raised will go directly to providing specialised rescue training for Surf Life Saving volunteers, helping to build national capacity to respond to emergencies on beaches, in floodwaters, and in remote environments across the country.   Join us in our efforts to support Surf Life Saving and make Australian waters safer by donating online, in-store at the counter or by purchasing a participating product.   #AmpolProud #PoweringCommunities

  • SLSA announced the election of its President, Peter Agnew AM ESM, following the sudden passing of long-serving Board member and former SLSA President, John Baker AM ESM, earlier this year. Baker was a highly respected leader, administrator, and valued member of the community, serving on the SLSA Board for over a decade and as President from January 2021 until his passing in August.     Agnew is the current Surf Life Saving NSW President and previously served as President of Surf Life Saving Sydney. He brings extensive experience across all facets of surf lifesaving. This appointment comes at a time of significant growth for Surf Life Saving, as the movement surpasses 200,000 members for the first time in its history.  “I am extremely proud to step into this role, but aware that there is still much work to be done. I look forward to continuing to lead that effort with our members, volunteers and supporters.”   “It is an incredible honour to be elected President of Surf Life Saving Australia. I’m deeply humbled to continue to serve our members, and to build upon the legacy of leadership left by John Baker.” – Peter Agnew AM ESM, SLSA President. • Yesterday, in collaboration with Royal Life Saving – Australia, SLSA led a strategic workshop on drowning at unpatrolled beaches. The workshop stemmed from discussions at the National Water Safety Summit and reflected the need for strong collaboration with multiple stakeholders to reduce beach drowning as outlined within the Australian Water Safety Strategy 2030.    With 48 attendees from 26 organisations, the workshop discussed topics from expanding beach services and opportunities for surveillance, community-led engagement and response solutions, to leveraging innovation, data and technology. As outlined in the recent #NCSR and #NDR, drowning is a problem facing all ages and aquatic locations, with beaches accounting for a significant proportion of Australia's drowning burden.    This collaborative effort was a fantastic first step, bringing many stakeholders together, and signalling the collective commitment to tackle the challenge we all face to reduce drowning at unpatrolled beaches.

  • As Rescue Helicopter Month (October) comes to an end, we want to extend our gratitude to all the crewmembers for their dedication and hard work in saving the lives of those in need. Helicopters play an incredibly important role in search and rescue and bringing people home safely.    We’re prepped for another busy summer ahead, so thanks to Westpac, our partners and the community for your ongoing support to help us do what we do.

  • There’s been a distressing rise in coastal drowning among people aged 55+.   All of them were away from the red and yellow flags and patrolled beaches. 1 in 3 were alone.   Silver Salties is a program run through local surf clubs. It encourages older adults to swim together, stay active and confident around the water.   You don’t need to be a club member to join.   Programs can include traditional surf lifesaving skills, gentle beach fitness, walking, yoga, and a coffee afterwards.   Find a program near you and join here: https://lnkd.in/gXHnyP9u

  • Coastal drowning deaths hit a tragic new high over the past 12 months. All 154 occurred away from the red and yellow flags and outside of patrol areas. Without surf lifesavers and lifeguards there would be much worse. They performed more than 8,000 rescues and nearly 66,000 first aid treatments. Our beaches are iconic but they can also be dangerous. This summer, make the choice that can save your life. Swim between the red and yellow flags. Learn more from the 2025 National Coastal Safety Report. https://lnkd.in/gYD4SFHD
