All kinds of useful.

About us

Origin is one of Australia's leading energy companies, exploring, generating and delivering energy to over 4 million customer accounts. Our purpose – getting energy right for our customers, communities and planet – drives everything we do. As Australia's largest energy retailer, we have an important role to play in providing electricity, natural gas, solar and LPG to Australian communities and work every day to make energy more affordable, more sustainable, smarter and easier for our customers. We are committed to leading the transition to a cleaner energy future and believe our company, and the energy industry more broadly, should be at the forefront of action to reduce carbon emissions. Origin was the first Australian company to set an emissions reduction target endorsed by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) – aiming to halve our Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions by 2032, as we work towards achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Through the Origin Energy Foundation, we support programs that use education to help break the cycle of disadvantage and empower young Australians to reach their potential, contributing more than $27 million to support community organisations since 2010. • It’s 2016. Pokemon Go has taken the world by storm, Snapchat’s face swap filter is all the rage, Beyonce drops the Lemonade album, and Origin posts its first photo on LinkedIn. OK, so while the latter isn’t topping any ‘Biggest moments of 2016’ lists, LinkedIn has become an important way of us connecting with our stakeholders as we advance our ambition to lead the energy transition. As we celebrate hitting 200,000 followers, we want to thank everyone here for sharing the journey so far - whether you've been here from the start, recently joined or somewhere in between. What do you enjoy about following along, or what's your favourite LinkedIn moment? Let us know in the comments.

  • Not long ago, 100 megawatts was considered huge for a battery. Today, Origin’s Eraring battery will deliver 700 MW – seven times that – and our other project at Mortlake isn’t far behind. Origin’s Head of Energy Storage Projects, Jay Foggin, says the pace of change in battery storage has been remarkable. In just a few years, the technology has scaled dramatically, helping create a more flexible and reliable energy system that can handle more renewables than ever before.

  • We’re proud to announce a new partnership with Cricket Australia which will see Australia’s largest energy retailer and favourite summer sport join forces. As a platinum partner, we’re supporting cricket at both the elite and community levels. This includes sponsorship of the Australian men’s and women’s teams, the Big Bash Leagues and a commitment to support local clubs and communities with solar, battery and energy management solutions to help reduce energy costs and emissions. • We’re pleased to be partnering with Cricket for Climate and Blacktown City Council on Power Up Play, an innovative project that will deliver solar, battery and energy management solutions across sporting facilities in western Sydney. This initiative – co-funded by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water's Community Energy Upgrades Fund – will help reduce emissions, lower energy costs and open up new revenue streams to benefit local clubs and the local community.

  • Meet Maurice from Birchip — a retired schoolteacher who has volunteered countless hours to the local football club. He’s been taking on the jobs no one else notices, like cleaning the clubrooms, lining the oval, restoring and running the old scoreboard, just to name a few.    Now, with Origin’s help, Maurice’s home is powered by solar, giving him more energy independence and lower bills so he can enjoy spending more time supporting his community.    Through Budget Battlers, we’re showing Aussies how to electrify their home, one useful upgrade at a time. Tune in tonight on Channel 9 at 7:30pm AEDT. Are you on your own electrification journey? Let us know in the comments 👇

This Christmas, we’re partnering with AGL Energy, Alinta Energy, and Origin Energy for the 2025 Light the Way campaign – a powerful collaboration that's bringing hope and practical relief to Australian families doing it tough. Since launching in 2022, Light the Way has demonstrated what's possible when industry leaders unite for good. This year, we're working together to support Australian families with essential assistance – from covering unexpected bills and putting food on the table to ensuring children wake up to gifts on Christmas morning. A heartfelt thank you to AGL Energy, Alinta Energy, and Origin Energy for once again leading the way in corporate social responsibility and showing what's possible when we work together. Together, we're transforming lives and lighting the way this Christmas 💡 #LightTheWay #ChristmasAppeal #CorporatePartnership #EnergyForGood

  • For Fraser Power, Origin’s Head of Social Advocacy, projects like the proposed Yanco Delta Wind Farm start with listening. “We spend time in communities to understand what matters most,” Fraser says. “It’s about trust, connection and taking the time to get it right.” That’s how we build renewable projects that deliver real, lasting benefits for regional communities.

  • We’ve taken another step towards building a more flexible, reliable energy system. We’ve secured unconditional connection agreements for our large-scale battery at Mortlake with Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO). The agreement locks in connection to the energy grid through AusNet’s Mortlake Terminal Station and sets the path to full operation. The Mortlake battery, expected to be completed next year, will have a capacity of 300 MW and deliver up to 650 MWh of energy.

  • Meet Sandra from Maidstone. 84, resilient, and ready for a change.   With our help, she’s swapped gas for a fully electric home, with solar on the roof, an electric hot water heat pump and LED lighting throughout — helping to boost energy efficiency and comfort, and bring her energy bills down.
