Saudi Arabia is rapidly emerging as one of the world’s leading markets for large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS). The Ministry of Energy has confirmed that more than 26 GWh of storage capacity has already been tendered across multiple projects, now advancing through various stages of development. Among the most notable milestones is the 12.5 GWh contract awarded by the Saudi Electricity Company to BYD Energy Storage, representing one of the largest single BESS procurements globally. These projects demonstrate the Kingdom’s strong commitment to grid modernization, renewable energy integration, and operational reliability — positioning Saudi Arabia at the forefront of global energy transition efforts.

EDP Renewables (EDPR) has signed a 17-year Capacity Tolling Agreement with Ava Community Energy for a 70 MW (280 MWh) co-located battery energy storage system in Fresno County, California. The project was developed by EDP Renewables North America and extends an existing solar and storage facility, with commercial operations set to begin in 2026. The agreement EDP’s 3.4 GW of solar and 700 MW of storage capacity currently in operation or under construction across North America. “This milestone reinforces EDP’s low-risk, long-term growth strategy and its commitment to innovation and storage technologies as key enablers of the energy transition and decarbonisation,” the company said in a statement. https://lnkd.in/gw39-xAn #cleanenergy
