Team effort keeps Mortlake ready for peak season
Mortlake Power Station, Victoria’s largest gas-fired generator, plays a key role in supporting the state’s energy needs during peak demand. The team has just completed a major outage on gas turbine GT-12 – a significant project that focused on inspecting and overhauling the turbine rotor to keep the plant running safely and reliably.
GT-12 has now been successfully reassembled, fired up, and is performing well. Most contractors have wrapped up their work, with a small crew still onsite to pack up equipment and complete the final stages of commissioning. The focus now shifts to close-out activities, including processing timesheets, reviewing contractor claims, and finalising documentation.
It’s a great achievement for everyone involved and the result of years of planning, careful execution, and teamwork to keep Mortlake, and Victoria’s power supply, strong.
Safety in focus during HSSE Month
October was National Safe Work Month, and with it, a powerful reminder that safety, security, and care for our people, communities, and environment sit at the heart of everything we do. Across Origin, teams came together to share experiences, celebrate progress, and reflect on what it really means to keep safety front of mind; not just in the field, but in every decision we make.
From site visits and toolbox talks to mental fitness sessions and cyber security insights, HSSE Month showed the many ways our people live this commitment every day. We heard from leaders, learned from incidents, and connected over conversations to help strengthen trust and resilience across our business.
Shining a light on HSSE Excellence
As part of HSSE Month, we also came together to recognise the people and teams who go above and beyond to keep Origin safe, secure and sustainable. Our annual HSSE Awards celebrate the practical actions that protect our people, communities and the environment, and bring our HSSE beliefs to life.
This year’s top honour, the Clarke Boyer Award for HSSE Excellence, went to Integrated Gas team members Darryn Dickson , Denis Burton , Zeak Cheney and Jane Truscott who were recognised for their actions as first responders to an on-road incident. Their professionalism, care, and teamwork were instrumental in saving a life. They were also supported by the Reedy Creek Emergency Response Team. The incident was a strong example of how regular training and coordination prepare our people to respond when it matters most.
Congratulations to the team of first responders, along with all finalists and other award recipients, for setting new benchmarks in safety, care, and teamwork through this year’s HSSE Awards.
Powering change with Budget Battlers
If you’re a fan of renovation shows, you may have noticed us on Channel Nine ’s Budget Battlers. We’ve teamed up with the show to help Aussies take control of their energy through smart and efficient solutions. From rooftop solar and batteries to LED lighting and heat pumps, we’ve been helping deliver practical upgrades that lower energy bills and make homes more comfortable.
The renovation series follows hosts Jess Eva and Norm Hogan as they rally communities to transform homes for everyday Australians doing it tough. Throughout the season, Origin is helping families take real steps toward electrification, proving that with the right advice and support, anyone can make the switch to efficient all-electric homes.
Budget Battlers runs until 26 November, with Origin team members lending a hand each week to help transform Aussie homes, and we’re proud to be part of a show that makes a real difference for these families.
Highlights from Origin’s 26th AGM
It was great to hear from our Chair and CEO at Origin’s 26th Annual General Meeting. The meeting was a valuable opportunity for shareholders to vote on key matters, share their views, and discuss Origin’s performance and strategy over the past year.
It was also a chance to talk about our role in Australia’s energy future, from advancing cleaner energy and customer solutions to supporting the communities where we live and work.
Shareholders voted strongly in favour of Origin’s second Climate Transition Action Plan, reaffirming our commitment to reduce emissions by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050. The conversations on the day showed a shared focus on progress, building a cleaner, more reliable and affordable energy future for all Australians.
