Welcome to Moorebank Intermodal Precinct, Opal Cartons Australia!  If you’ve ever bought something in a cardboard box, chances are you’ve handled one of Opal’s products. Opal is one of Australia and New Zealand’s largest recycling, paper and packaging businesses and operates across 70 sites in Australia and New Zealand, and exports across the world. Their sustainable packaging solutions — from cardboard cartons and boxes and paper bags to retail display stands — support a wide range of industries. We’re thrilled to share that Opal has committed to a 10-year lease on a 27,233sqm facility at Moorebank, which will commence once the facility has been customised for their Cartons operations. The site is targeting a 5 Star Green Star Design & As Built v1.3 rating. In 2024, Opal produced more than 500,000 tonnes of 100% recycled paper, reinforcing its focus on circular economy principles - a perfect fit for Moorebank Intermodal Precinct’s ambition of building a smarter, more sustainable freight network.  At full capacity, Moorebank Intermodal Precinct is expected to remove up to 3000 truck movements from Sydney’s roads daily and cut CO₂ emissions by enabling a greater shift to rail freight. Our Interstate Terminal can handle 1,800-metre trains — each removing up to 100 B-double trucks from our roads. A major milestone for Moorebank - and for Australia’s freight future. The first Aurizon train has officially arrived at the Interstate Terminal at Moorebank Intermodal Precinct, marking a significant step forward in transforming our national supply chain. The Interstate Terminal, owned and operated by MITCo, has been purpose-built to handle 1,800-metre-long trains, helping shift freight off our roads and onto rail. Each of these trains has the potential to remove up to 100 B-double trucks, easing congestion, reducing emissions, and creating a more efficient and resilient national freight network. The Interstate Terminal also offers our customers greater reliability, speed and cost efficiency when moving freight between major cities and ports. With open access to multiple rail operators, businesses benefit from more flexible service options, and seamless integration into broader national and global supply chains. This is a game-changing piece of infrastructure that will boost productivity and deliver tangible benefits for businesses, consumers and communities nation-wide. Last week we turned the first soil on our brand new 100,000 sqm Omnichannel Fulfilment Centre in Moorebank, NSW.   With over 300 stores across Australia and New Zealand, our store network is and will remain at the heart of who we are. But this new facility ensures we’re ready for what comes next - by making a commitment that represents a significant long-term investment in our future supply chain.   By modernising our fulfilment capabilities, we’re increasing speed, efficiency and flexibility across our network – so that we can keep delivering everyday joy to our millions of Australian customers each week.   Thank you to the Hon.
