WE'RE ON THE COVER OF UT2 MAGAZINE! Matrix Composites & Engineering is proud to be featured as the cover story in Issue 4 (page10) of UT2 magazine — official publication of the Society for Underwater Technology (SUT) — spotlighting the Matrix Deepwater Hyperbaric Common User Facility (HCUF) in Henderson, WA. Developed in collaboration with the Western Australian Government, Subsea Innovation Cluster Australia (SICA) and Baker Hughes, the HCUF is a first-of-its-kind in Australia and the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. 💡 WHY IT MATTERS The HCUF is transforming subsea testing in the Indo-Pacific region by enabling: ✅ Local deepwater hyperbaric testing - eliminating the need to ship equipment overseas ✅ Up to 10x faster lead times compared to overseas testing ✅ Reduced carbon emissions and transport risk ✅ Full functional verification before offshore deployment ✅ IRM support for refurbished subsea hardware ✅ An open-access model for operators, OEMs, and developers. 🔬 CASE STUDY SPOTLIGHT In 2025, an INPEX-operated, Baker Hughes-designed Subsea Control Module (SCM) became the first equipment to undergo full electrical functional testing in the HCUF. Using custom-built Electric Flying Leads, the SCM was tested under pressure, verifying performance at each increment up to 1.1× its rated depth. This milestone aligns with API 15F (5th edition) standards and demonstrates the HCUF’s capability to support IRM schedules with faster, auditable verification. 🌊 A GAME-CHANGER FOR SUBSEA This facility marks a major step forward for the subsea industry in the Indo-Pacific — building local capability, accelerating innovation, and reducing reliance on overseas infrastructure.
