This document outlines an out-of-class activity for second year electronics engineering students on digital multimeters (DMM). The learning objectives are for students to be able to list the needs and advantages of digital instruments, think of the blocks required for a DMM, and write specifications of digital instruments. Key concepts covered include electronic instruments, analog instruments, digital instruments, and the functions and basic blocks of a DMM. The advantages of digital instruments discussed are accuracy, resolution, repeated measurements, lower power needs, and digital output.
