Out-of-class_ppt for video - v2
Out-of-class Activity Design – L1
At the end of watching the videos student should be able to,
1. List or write need and advantages of electronic & digital
instruments (Recall / Understand Level)
2. Think of blocks required for DMM .
3. Write specifications of digital instruments (Apply Level)
1. Electronic instrument / measurement
2. Analog instruments
3. Digital Instruments
Learning Objective(s) of Out-of-Class Activity:

Advantages of Digital Instruments:
1. The digital instruments indicate the reading directly in
decimal numbers. So, no observational error.
2. More accuracy.
3. Resolution is more. i.e one tenths or one hundredth of
volt can be measured.
4. Repeated measurement – i.e. 7 to 10 times measurement is
carried out in 1 minute.
5. The digital instrument requires smaller power.
6. Its output is in digital form , so it is directly fed into
the memory .
Digital Multimeter (DMM) –
Functions
 Can measure – 1) DC voltage , 2) AC voltage
3) Current , 4) Resistance

• In digital instrument (DMM) , analog to
digital (ADC) is required & parameter is
displayed in terms of digits on digital display.
• Input requirement for ADC is dc voltage.
Basic block – ADC ( DC DVM)

 Additional blocks –
 To measure AC voltage - ?
 To measure current - ?
 To measure resistance - ?

• For 3 and ½ digit display , count will be
from 0000 to 1999.
• So , resolution will be --
n = 3
