🚍🥚 New Pilot Project: When the Bus Delivers Eggs and Potatoes 🇩🇪 In the Wunsiedel district (Bavaria), public transport is getting a new purpose - not only for passengers, but also for local food logistics. Under the “Fichtel-Food-Log” initiative, coordinated by project manager Laura Stecher as part of the Smart Fichtelgebirge program, buses may soon transport eggs, potatoes, pasta, honey, flour, or bread between local producers and retailers. The concept aims to reduce empty runs, cut emissions, and strengthen regional supply chains. 🌱 🔹 Key points: • The project starts with B2B deliveries (producers → retailers), with private customers possibly included later. • 🚌 Bus transport during off-peak hours – no disruption to school or commuter services. • 📦 Goods will be handled through hub stations and possibly local courier partnerships. • 💻 A digital platform (regiothek.de) connects producers and buyers, supporting order management and route planning. • 👩🌾 Over dozens of producers, restaurants, and retailers have already registered. • Launch planned for January 2026, with live operations between March and June. “The goal is to make food logistics more efficient and sustainable - while supporting local farmers and small businesses,” says Laura Stecher. Such innovative models could become a template for rural regions across Europe - combining digitalization, regional development, and low-carbon mobility. 🌍 #SmartFichtelgebirge #FichtelFoodLog #RegionalFood #Sustainability #LogisticsInnovation #Agribusiness #CircularEconomy #SmartMobility #LocalFarming #Germany #PublicTransport #Digitalization #egg #eggmarket https://lnkd.in/d3rKjceu
