Hurricane Melissa has disrupted schooling for nearly 477,000 children across the Caribbean. With many schools damaged or closed, children have been forced to miss classes or study in temporary spaces that may not be equipped for proper learning. According to UNICEF’s most recent assessment, 900,000 children are in humanitarian need, including those experiencing learning loss. In Cuba, Haiti and Jamaica, UNICEF is working with governments and partners to deliver essential educational supplies - such as learning and teaching material and temporary school tents - and rehabilitate damaged schools. Donate now to support children affected: https://lnkd.in/gBrgJ84p

Yesterday morning, a baby girl was reportedly killed in an airstrike in Khan Younis while the day before, seven children were killed in Gaza City and the south. This is during an agreed ceasefire. These are not statistics. Each was a child with a family, a dream, a life suddenly cut short by continued violence. Children need a ceasefire that’s sustained and respected, and surge of aid. NOW.

    • Between October 10 and November 20, at least 63 Palestinian children were reportedly killed during the Gaza ceasefire, with many more injured. That's an average of almost two children killed every day since the ceasefire has been in effect.

Seven-year-old Derara and his family fled their home after drought took everything. Now, they’re finding their footing in a camp for displaced people in Ethiopia. With support from a UNICEF-supported cash programme, his mom is rebuilding—buying livestock, finding a way out of poverty, and dreaming of a better future for her children. This is their story.

Farzan, 9, lost everything when floods swept away his home in Afghanistan. “There was so much water everywhere,” he said. Children are the least responsible for the climate crisis, yet they’re paying the highest price. A better future is still in reach. But only if we act now. #COP30

Every child has the same rights, no matter who they are or where they live. But right now, children’s rights are under attack. Poverty and emergencies are stealing education; climate chaos is jeopardizing futures; and new dangers lurk in the online world. The future is defined by how we care for the next generation. This #WorldChildrensDay, let’s listen to children, amplify their voices and unite to build a safe, equal world for every child.

Earlier this year, our Goodwill Ambassador Millie Bobby Brown had the opportunity to meet 12-year-old Catarina in São Paulo, Brazil. Children like Catarina are raising their voices, living their rights, and reminding us that every child has the right to learn, to play and be safe. This #WorldChildrensDay, and every day, let’s listen to children - everywhere - and act to protect their rights.
