We Know Space.

About us

Umbra is an American space technology company built to push the limits of what’s possible. We’re redefining what can be done in and through space – expanding access, increasing persistence, and delivering a powerful information advantage to our customers. From the ground up in the U.S., we design, build, test, and operate advanced systems – from sensors to spacecraft – engineering novel solutions tailored to the missions that matter most. Our agile Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) constellation is the most capable system on the market — producing the highest-quality imaging data in any condition, at any time. Built for unmatched resilience, our system illuminates what others miss and empowers customers with persistent access, resilient performance, and proven results on orbit – not just on paper. Our commitment to First Principles engineering has fueled year-over-year growth since our market entry in 2021. And we are only just getting started. Umbra’s ecosystem today includes: - Remote Sensing = the data - Space Systems = the hardware - Mission Solutions = the platforms Together, these capabilities make Umbra the most effective partner in the market – delivering the flexibility, performance, and resilience your mission demands. By continuously designing, building, and operating our own systems, we’re constantly refining our technology, our products, and our craft. Our radar imagery is the direct result of our platform effectiveness – precision from orbit, powered by our integrated hardware and software. Because we’ve mastered the details, we can customize satellites quickly and reliably. Now, we’re offering others the same building blocks that more our missions possible. We know space. And we’re continuing to redefine it.

Wide-area coverage. All-weather clarity. A new way to visualize complex archipelagos. With Umbra Scan, you can capture wide areas with exceptional flexibility and detail. Scan reveals expansive regions like the Bahamas — home to more than 700 islands and 2,500 cays — with clarity that brings the full landscape into focus. Resolution: 1 m | 1x looks | Collect Date: 11.13.25 | Lat: 24.6°, Long: -76.8° Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eCERmS-3

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) can provide critical insight into infrastructure failures and pinpoint damaged sections. For example, just yesterday, the Hongqi Bridge collapse in Shuangjiangkou, Sichuan Province. Highlighted is the portion of the bridge that collapsed, viewable even through cloud cover and at night. Umbra’s high-resolution SAR imagery enables precise change detection and terrain assessment, supporting a clear understanding of events like this when optical imaging is limited. Umbra’s Scan breaks free from traditional SAR limits, collecting data beyond the ground track at high resolution for unmatched clarity and flexibility. With resolutions as precise as 50 cm and footprints up to 8 km x 100 km, Umbra's Scan delivers wide-area situational awareness in fewer passes so you can follow the scene you care about, not just what’s below. Scan on target, no matter the path: https://lnkd.in/eCERmS-3

As Hurricane Melissa continues to impact communities in Jamaica, Umbra is making synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data freely available to organizations supporting relief and recovery operations. Seen here is Rocky Point, Clarendon, Jamaica, 10 hours after landfall (02:44 UTC) in 50cm, x2 look. Because SAR can see through clouds and darkness, responders can use our data to: - Identify flooding and damaged infrastructure - Monitor changing conditions when visibility is limited - Support coordination and planning for response teams This effort is part of Umbra’s commitment to make satellite data available in service of communities and first responders during times of crisis. If you are part of an organization responding to #HurricaneMelissa and need this data, apply here: https://lnkd.in/ee94AwTf
