The Nightly’s recently announced Editorial Director of Travel, Richard Clune, attended the Mumbrella Travel Marketing Summit last month. “Not surprisingly, AI was the dominant talking point - but there’s also much chatter around human touch, trust and connectivity as increasingly valuable and sought-out measures,” Richard said. “AI’s rate of engagement and growing capability is phenomenal and unrivalled and not something we can, or should, simply skip past. But it was equally powerful to hear and explore the human element - to talk about the power of human emotion and the place that hold.” This year’s summit featured keynotes and panels from Tourism Australia’s Susan Coghill, Mastercard’s Luke McClelland, Tourism Tasmania’s Lindene Cleary, The Growth Distillery’s Dan Krigstein and Seven Network’s Director of Morning Television Sarah Stinson among others. The Australian tourism and travel sector is set to inject $315 billion into the national economy in 2025 alone, and will feature heavily in The Nightly’s new premium travel initiative, which is launching soon. The Nightly is excited to announce award-winning journalist Richard Clune has been appointed our Editorial Director of Travel, signalling the launch of our ambitious new travel offering. Richard brings 20 years of editorial experience to the role, including stints at The Australian, The Sunday Telegraph and GQ Australia. Most recently, he published award-winning men's lifestyle title BH through his brand consultancy Bleue. Editor-In-Chief Christopher Dore said: "Richard gets it – travel isn't just about breathtaking sunsets and hidden gems. It's about the stories that pull you in, the local who knows the best seat in the bar, the quiet wonder you find when you wander a little further.” Editor Sarah-Jane Tasker said: "Richard brings exactly the editorial sophistication our audience craves. They're well-travelled, savvy readers who want to feel like insiders – not tourists following a checklist.” More about The Nightly's travel offering will be revealed in the coming weeks.
