If you’re building (or rebuilding) an HR function that delivers results, this one’s worth a read.

A thoughtful post from TCG Managing Partner Molly Mangan that reminds us all what strategic continuity truly looks like. Molly’s perspective captures what we see every day in our work with clients. Leadership gaps rarely create immediate chaos, but their quiet impact on culture, clarity, and momentum is real. The organizations that stay resilient are the ones that treat interim talent as a strategic advantage, not a temporary fix. At TCG, we’ve seen how the right interim leader brings stability, protects culture, and keeps teams moving with confidence during moments of transition. It is one of the most important tools organizations can leverage to stay strong through change.

When Interim Talent Becomes a Strategy, Not a Stop-Gap I’ve watched it happen too many times. A key HR leader leaves. The organization scrambles to “hold things together” while the search begins. Weeks turn into months. Momentum fades, teams lose direction, and culture quietly starts to wobble. At first, the symptoms seem small: – Meetings run without clear ownership – Priorities drift as teams “wait for the new person” – High performers quietly disengage or leave – Critical projects stall because no one feels empowered to decide The damage isn’t loud. It’s cumulative. Trust erodes in inches, not miles. The organization becomes reactive - focusing on damage control instead of direction. After three decades working with HR and advising CEOs, I’ve learned this pattern isn’t about people leaving. It’s about how companies prepare for the inevitable transitions that leadership demands. The real risk isn’t the vacancy - it’s the assumption that a temporary gap is just that: temporary. In reality, it’s a leadership blind spot. A gap in capability, continuity, and confidence that compounds with every passing week. Here’s what resilient organizations do differently: • They treat interim talent as a strategic investment, not a placeholder. • They design continuity plans before they’re needed. • They use transitions as catalysts for fresh capability - not periods of decline. The next time a key leader exits, ask yourself: Are we bridging a gap - or building an advantage?

Behind every great placement is a process built on precision, care, and trust. At TCG, our search methodology isn’t just about filling roles, it’s about building lasting partnerships and placing leaders who elevate culture, performance, and impact. These results reflect what happens when expertise meets empathy, and when clients know their search partner is as invested in the outcome as they are.

True leadership isn’t defined by titles or perfect conditions. It’s forged in pressure, in moments when clarity, courage, and conviction matter most. In his latest article, Eric Torigian, Managing Partner of TCG’s Interim and Fractional Services Division, shares lessons on how real leadership shows up when it matters most, and how TCG’s Fractional HR practice helps organizations lead through uncertainty with confidence and results. Read the full article to learn how practical, people-first leadership can turn chaos into clarity.

Great insights from TCG Partner Jeff Wilbanks on the evolution of the Chief Administrative Officer role. We’re seeing the same momentum across our searches; more organizations are looking to HR and Operations leaders to take on broader enterprise mandates that connect people, strategy, and performance.
The CAO has been a hot topic lately. I’ve had a number of people reach out recently, curious about how the role is changing and why we’re seeing more organizations lean into it. It’s clear there’s real momentum and growing interest in what a modern CAO can bring to the table. Traditionally, the CAO sat closest to legal, a steady hand guiding governance and administration. But that picture is shifting. More companies are redefining the role to be a connector across people, operations, and strategy, creating a broader mandate than we’ve seen in the past. In the last year alone, CAO roles grew 21% in Software/Tech and 13% in Industrial Manufacturing. And the talent profile is changing: while legal backgrounds are still the most common, we’re seeing a noticeable rise in CAOs coming from HR and Operations. The CAO is increasingly the glue: helping scale organizations, streamline decision-making, and bring structure to growth. It’s a role that keeps expanding, and I expect we’ll continue to see new versions of it take shape. #TCG #CAO #HR #executivesearch
