The State of the Internal Audit Profession The Detroit Chapter of the IIA’s October meeting featured two speakers. The first speaker, was Stacey Schabel, CIA, CPA, Senior Vice Chair for IIA Global Board of Directors. She told us about how we, as internal auditors, are expected to be engaged in managing the risks of our organizations, and being strategic advisors to leadership on the interconnected and accelerating risks environment. Dave Flynn presented on the employment market for internal auditors, and what employers, specifically CAEs, are looking for in new hires. This includes technical skills such as business acumen and data analytics, and soft skills, such as professional curiosity and communications. One of the keys to hiring the right person, or for candidates in getting the right job, is flexibility! Thank you to our speakers and all those that attended our hybrid meeting, virtually or in person!
