It was an honor to share this recognition with the students, staff, and families of Roosevelt HS. The work is not done alone, it is a partnership, and they make Roosevelt a wonderful place. Thank you City Councilmember Aurin Chowdhury and the Minneapolis City Council for being so welcoming.

  • Happy Veterans Day to all who served! Today we would like to thank our veterans at MPS, including John Jubenville, Jason Morzenti, Cindy LaBrie and Rick Sandin. 🇺🇸 John Jubenville is the school social worker at Heritage Academy and he served from 1981 to 2006. John joined the Air Force after high school and also served in the Army Reserves, Army National Guard and Air National Guard. He was stationed in Turkey for one year and also spent time in Alaska, Hawaii, Italy and Panama City, Florida. John also served on the staff of the Minnesota National Guard Youth Camp after retiring from the Air National Guard. Submitted service photos show John in the Air Force at Tyndall Air Force Base and in his Air National Guard uniform with Minnesota’s 133rd Airlift Wing. Cindy LaBrie, a school administrative manager at Sullivan STEAM School, served in the U.S. Navy Reserve from 1988 to 2009. She retired as a Cryptologic Technician Collection Chief Petty Officer (CTRC) with the Navy Reserve in Minneapolis. The photo she submitted shows her during the Chief’s Initiation ceremony at the Navy Reserve Center in 2005. Jason Morzenti is a social studies teacher at Washburn High School who served from 1993 to 1997. He was in the Air National Guard at Truax Field in Madison, WI, and was activated in the Air Force at Sheppard and Lackland Air Force Bases in Texas. Rick Sandin is a physical plant operator (PPO) engineer for MPS and he served with the 1st Battalion, 9th Marines from 1980 to 1989. Rick’s service took him to locations across the globe, including Camp Pendleton, Twentynine Palms, Panama, Bridgeport, Okinawa, Korea, the Philippines and Diego Garcia. The photos Rick shared capture moments from field exercises in Korea and Panama. Thank you for your service! 👏👏👏 #VeteransDay #ThankYouVeterans #WeAreMPS

Great news! 🎉 We're a recipient of the Outstanding Project Award from the Minnesota Community Education Association - MCEA! We're honored to be recognized for creating impactful cultural and environmental trips, tours and events that connect participants to local history and nature. Since launching our Mississippi River-related classes, we've engaged over 1.1k participants across 37 classes, partnering with Native American artists, historians and musicians to create experiences for our community. A special thank you to our Trips, Tours & Events Coordinator, Kathy Bodger, our partners & instructors, and every participant who joined our river classes!
