Today is World Mental Health Day, and, for employers, it’s a moment to pause and ask: is your workplace really supporting the mental health of all your employees?
Because here’s what the numbers are telling us:
📉 36% of LGBTQ+ workers are considering leaving their jobs in 2025. That's more than 1 in 3 and a sharp increase from 21% just last year.
📈 Meanwhile, 97% of LGBTQ+ employees who feel positively about inclusion plan to stay with their employer for another year.
💸 Employers spend, on average, over $15,000 a year on employees who experience mental distress.
The takeaway: When LGBTQ+ employees feel seen, supported, and affirmed, they stay. And when employers invest in employee mental health, they save money and increase retention and performance.
At FOLX Health, we hear it every day from our members, and we know it as LGBTQ+ people navigating care ourselves. Accessing mental health care as an LGBTQ+ person is harder or impossible when care isn’t affirming, when benefits don’t cover what’s needed, and when stigma shows up in the workplace.
But employers have the power to change that. Offering inclusive and culturally competent care isn't a nice-to-have perk, it’s a retention strategy, a wellness investment, and a signal that your company backs up its values with action.
This World Mental Health Day, take a closer look at your benefits and your partners:
-> Are they meeting the needs of all your employees?
-> Do LGBTQ+ team members feel safe using them?
If not, it’s time to rethink your strategy.
We're here to help.
