CCA is a national advocate for dramatically increasing college completion and closing institutional performance gaps.
About us
Established in 2009, Complete College America is a national nonprofit with a single mission: to work with states to significantly increase the number of Americans with quality career certificates or college degrees and to close attainment gaps for traditionally underrepresented populations. The need for this work is compelling. Between 1970 and 2009, undergraduate enrollment in the United States more than doubled, while the completion rate has been virtually unchanged. We've made progress in giving students from all backgrounds access to college - but we haven't finished the all-important job of helping them achieve a degree. Counting the success of all students is an essential first step. And then we must move with urgency to reinvent American higher education to meet the needs of the new majority of students on our campuses, delicately balancing the jobs they need with the educations they desire. Complete College America believes there is great reason for optimism and a clear path forward. With a little more support - and a lot of common sense - we can ensure that many more get the high-quality college education that will help them live productive and fulfilling lives. All Americans will share in the benefits of their success.

Great few days at Complete College America conference. Lots of conversations about the future of higher education and the impact of AI. Had a great time presenting this morning with Andrew Carlson and Kenyatta Lovett, Ph.D. on the work we have been doing in Michigan to support colleges and universities in meeting their goals.

I didn’t expect to have this much fun facilitating “AI 101: Confidence Through Hands-On Learning” in Baltimore this week at NEXT: the 2025 Complete College America annual convening. We practiced GenAI “hygiene” for inputs and outputs, used a real scenario to collaboratively create prompts using various GenAI tools, and stole tips from each other about effectively using GenAI at work. The room was loud—in the best way. Three things clearly landed: 1. Say It Loud, Say It Proud. Don’t be afraid to tell other people you are using AI! People said working together made their prompts way better and they left with GenAI tips from the collective wisdom of the group. 2. Hands-on beats theoretical. No one wanted another "what is AI" slide deck, especially me! Micro-dose learning + real-time practice = fun learning. 3. Templates as recipes. People really appreciated simple templates that they could riff on like a recipe – once you have the basic ingredients, you can make lots of meals! Check out T3 Advisory’s AI guide and prompt materials – so helpful! This session was part of the AI for Transformation research project between T3 Advisory + CCA, and I'm grateful to have supported it. Thank you to the Gates Foundation for funding the research. I was grateful for the opportunity to take part in today’s closing conversation on the future of AI in higher education at the CCA NEXT Convening in Baltimore. AI is not something we should approach with fear, but with thoughtful intention. The real work for leaders is to understand how these technologies can help us better serve learners, strengthen our institutions, and prepare students for a world where AI is shaping nearly every profession. That begins with asking the right questions—and being willing to rethink long-standing assumptions about how colleges and universities operate. During the panel, we explored how institutions are beginning to integrate AI into advising, academic design, and day-to-day operations, and what this means for the future of learning. The pace of change is accelerating, and it’s essential that we remain focused on equipping students with the skills and adaptability they’ll need throughout their careers. Sharing the stage with colleagues who are committed to moving higher education forward added great value to an exciting and forward-looking conversation. I appreciated the thoughtful dialogue and the spirit of collaboration throughout the session. Thank you to Complete College America for hosting an important and timely convening. #CCANext2025 #umgc #highered #collegesanduniversities #ai #futureofeducation #workforcedevelopment

Huge thanks to Dr. James McCoy and Nicola Blake, Ph.D., both brilliant CCA Fellows, for stepping up as our AI Prompt Battle guinea pigs during the final plenary. 🙌 It takes real leadership to demonstrate AI prompting skills live, and they brought creativity, courage, and contagious energy to the challenge: “Create the ultimate student success center of the future.” 📸 See the two visionary images they generated below. It's fun to see how tech-forward one is, and different - but similar - they ended up! Thank you to Complete College America (CCA) for inviting T3 Advisory into this work and for embracing innovative and creative approaches to integrating AI into student success efforts. This is how we boldly design the future our students deserve. 🚀🎓 #CCA2025 #StudentSuccess #AIinHigherEd #Innovation #Leadership #T3advisory #PromptBattle

These past few days in Baltimore with my Career Bridge Program colleagues have been a meaningful opportunity to reflect, connect, and learn from the Complete College America convening. One key takeaway that resonated with me is that our work as administrators is to ensure that every student’s investment of time, effort, and trust leads to meaningful success and degree completion. I look forward to continuing this professional development journey at VCU. Complete College America

Thank you to the Complete College America team for an energizing convening. It’s powerful to come together as impatient reformers with shared purpose to learn and connect. I leave thinking even more deeply about: * Strategic partnerships - finding ways to connect private, pubic, government and more * How to scale more evidence-based practices * Relentlessly seeking to reform data-driven decision making * Focusing on completion and beyond to workforce outcomes * Imagining the future as a combination of “just-in-time skills & timeless skills” so we can “move at the speed of the fight” - thanks for the inspiration, Chike Aguh. Always fun to see friends and colleagues and make new connections.
