🌍 COP30 Brazil and the inextricable link between climate and nature COP30 is underway in Belém, Brazil and the event's focus on climate, nature, forestry and finance reflects a growing recognition that tackling the climate crisis requires protecting and restoring the ecosystems that sustain us. Away from the negotiations, COP30 has been a focal point for business action on climate and nature. Among the many launches and announcements, we are encouraged to see progress on key initiatives connecting business, nature, and climate action, including: 🌱 The agreement between the Nature Positive Initiative and WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development to develop a Nature Measurement Protocol — a major step toward consistent, comparable nature data for companies. 🌱 New guidance from the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) includes (1) a paper on nature-related opportunities, (2) recommendations for integrating nature into climate transition plans, and (3) recommendations for upgrading the nature data value chain for market participants. 💥A key theme this year is scaling finance for nature — ensuring that investment flows translate into measurable biodiversity and climate outcomes. Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), led by the Inter-American Development Bank Group and European Investment Bank (EIB) with technical support from The Biodiversity Consultancy Ltd, have launched “Financing Nature: A Practitioner’s Guide to Results Metrics Selection” — a practical roadmap to help turn nature ambition into measurable, credible, and finance-ready outcomes. 📣 Today, we launched “Financing Nature: A Practitioner’s Guide to Results Metrics Selection”, a practical guide to help practitioners identify credible results metrics for #nature. Leading this work was one of the things I am most proud of in the last year. At the Biodiversity and Natural Capital Unit of the Inter-American Development Bank, we’re proud to have co-led this effort with our partners at the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the technical support from The Biodiversity Consultancy Ltd, through a collaborative effort with the Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) Nature Working Group. This new Guide is a practical roadmap to help project developers, governments, and financial institutions turn nature ambition into measurable, credible, and finance-ready outcomes. It aligns ambition with measurable impact across ecosystems, instruments, and sectors – bringing greater clarity, efficiency, and scale to nature finance.
