Decentralised #renewableenergy (DRE) continues to play a critical role in advancing #sustainabledevelopment. In one episode of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)'s podcast, 'All Things Renewables', IRENA expert explores how DRE can close the #energy access gaps in remote communities, provide clean cooking solutions and also contribute to the #3xRenewables capacity goal by 2030. Proud to contribute to #G20SouthAfrica’s publication by the G20 Research Group and The Global Governance Project, alongside South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa and world leaders. I highlight why the renewable energy transition is essential for an equitable energy future and outline the priorities needed to close the deployment gap in developing countries. 👉 https://bit.ly/G20SA

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has deepened cooperation with Kenya by supporting the country’s first #renewableenergy auction. Earlier this month, the Agency delivered a technical workshop in Nairobi to assist the Government of Kenya in the preparation for its first inaugural auction under the Renewable Energy Auctions Policy (REAP). Held under the framework of Accelerated Partnership for Renewables in Africa (#APRA), the sessions covered essential elements of auction design for utility-scale projects and distributed renewables. The workshop covered project objectives, winner selection criteria, remuneration structures, risk allocation and compliance mechanisms, among others. The workshop also introduced IRENA’s socio-economic impact assessment model (SEmap), offering insights into how different #energytransition pathways can influence job creation, GDP growth and local value-chain development: helping to ensure procurement decisions and long-term planning align with Kenya’s #sustainabledevelopment priorities. Appreciation is extended to the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and GET.transform for their collaboration in advancing Kenya’s #cleanenergy ambitions.

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), with the support of the @Government of Norway, has launched version 3 of the SolarCity Simulator. Developed in direct response to feedback from Member States and users, this enhanced version introduces new features that #empower governments, investors, and homeowners to strengthen evidence-based energy planning and make informed decisions on rooftop solar PV programmes. The SolarCity Simulator is an open-access, web-based application that supports Member States in accelerating the deployment of rooftop solar PV systems in urban areas, tailored to their local conditions. It enables users to estimate electricity generation, revenue potential, and savings under different installation scenarios, policy measures, and incentive schemes – highlighting both the economic and socio-environmental benefits of rooftop solar. By offering data-driven insights for planning, target setting, and investment prioritization, the simulator strengthens national efforts toward a more coordinated and effective scale-up of distributed solar energy. Engineered for performance, Version 3 delivers faster access and smoother user experience, enabling the simulator to scale to more cities while supporting multiple simultaneous users. It also introduces several powerful new features, including a building location finder, editable input fields, multiple satellite imagery options for rooftop visualization, hourly generation profiles for all three case studies (single building, multiple buildings, and large areas), and a range of other enhanced functionalities. To date, the simulator’s approach has been applied to 43 cities across Africa, Small Island Developing States (SIDS), and Latin America, supporting the global transition toward a more #sustainable and decentralized #energy future. Least Developed Countries contribute the least to global emissions yet show stronger ambition in their NDCs. This dialogue co-organised by LDC Group on Climate Change and International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), brought together government representatives and experts to explore solutions to unlock finance, partnerships and progress in support of the #NDC ambitions.

At #COP30, policy takes centre stage in turning the global commitment to #3xRenewables into reality. Strong, consistent and predictable frameworks are the backbone of the #EnergyTransition ⚡️. Yet many countries still face regulatory uncertainty, slow permitting and limited institutional capacity — challenges that delay deployment. Pursuing the 2030 goal requires governments to create clear policy signals that build investor confidence, enable market stability and growth. The right policies can turn ambition into action and accelerate the #EnergyTransition 🌍. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gixCyCVJ

How do you boost renewable energy deployment in the developing world? In our new op-ed in TIME for #COP30, H.E. Alexandre Silveira, Brazil’s Minister of Mines and Energy (Ministério de Minas e Energia), and I highlight the transformative impact of linking energy planning with investment strategies from the outset to scale renewable energy deployment in developing countries. We outline how this alignment is essential for building investor confidence and how the Global Coalition for Energy Planning (GCEP) is supporting countries in strengthening this connection. 👉 https://lnkd.in/dbN69Mme
