𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐈 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝐂𝐎𝐎? This is a question I always receive from candidates looking for advice on how to shape their career moves towards the top seat in Operations/Supply Chain. Placing COOs and working directly with them to staff their leadership teams, we are fortunate enough to be able to get the insights directly: 🔸𝐁𝐞 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝟐𝐄 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞: Most COOs have had exposure to different functions across the E2E Supply Chain, as well as different regions and businesses. This wasn't by accident... they had intent about bridging any gaps in their experience to have a breadth and depth of knowledge across the future scope of the COO If you are looking for that first exposure to Manufacturing or Supply Chain, seek it internally where your capabilities are already known and trusted. A lot of clients we work with are unwilling to take these "bets" on external candidates over someone with a proven track record 🔸𝐃𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐞: Although purposeful about broadening their career, most have deep technical grounding in a function enabling them to "walk the walk" and dare I cause some controversy 🫣 the emphasis tends to remain on manufacturing... 🔸𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬: every COO confirms they had at least 2-3 mentors who had walked the path previously and could share first hand experience & advice 🔸𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: proven track record in transformation is key. Most in my network admit taking on roles and projects that make them doubt themselves at first, but help them fail quickly, learn fast and grow 🔸𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: Stakeholder management & people leadership are what determines how successful a COO will be and the more you understand about people, countries and cultures the better What have I missed?

We have worked hard on every touch point of our client/candidate journey and in parallel we invested in Talent Analytics NPS software to get real time feedback on where and how we can improve, as well as track our progress. The graph below shows our consistent improvement and in October we officially hit what is considered WORLD CLASS service levels (alongside having a MEGA revenue and KPI performance)🤩 The great thing is we still see plenty of opportunity for further improvement in what we do, but we appreciate all of the constructive feedback from all of our clients and candidates. Along with a passion for people development 🔹 Excellent stakeholder management skills: a unique role where you are connected daily with the operators right up to the executive committee, it is key you know how to adapt your communication to engage different types of stakeholder 🔹 Data, results and KPI-driven: Can implement a structured, KPI and results-driven culture to deliver outstanding performance across safety, quality, OEE, OTIF and of course the P&L.
