As #COP30 comes to a close in the Amazon, WFP is sounding the alarm: millions could be driven into hunger due to extreme weather unless climate finance is scaled up to prevent catastrophe. Even a 1°C rise in global temperatures could push an additional 70 million people into food insecurity across 45 countries where WFP operates. Recent disasters – Hurricane Melissa in the Caribbean and Typhoon Fung-Wong in the Philippines – show how climate shocks are accelerating a global hunger crisis. With funding shortfalls forcing WFP to prioritize only the hungriest in 2026, communities already facing fragility and conflict risk being left without the resources they need to prepare, respond, and recover. WFP calls on all stakeholders to turn commitments to actions: 🌡️Keep the 1.5°C within reach ⏳Accelerate the adaptation agenda 💰🍚Ensure climate finance for those who need it the most.

The risks are real, but so is our capacity to change this. With strong partnerships, enough resources and proven innovation, we can turn this around. Read my call to action for 2026.

Extreme weather events pushed nearly 96 million people into crisis or emergency levels of hunger last year. #COP30, in the heart of the Amazon, is a pivotal moment. We need financing and bold commitments to protect communities from escalating weather-driven hunger.
