MEMORY OF COMPUTER
SYSTEM
AND
UNITS OF MEMORY
Computer memory is the storage space
in the computer, where data is processed
and instructions required for processing
are stored.CPU is the brain of the
computer. CPU needs to have some palce
where it can hold instructions and data
during processing.
There are 2 types of memories –
1. Primary Memory (Main Memory)
2. Secondary Memory
RAM (Random
Access Memory)
ROM (Read Only
Memory)

These are magnetic and optical memories.
It is known as the backup memory.
It is a non-volatile memory.
Data is permanently stored even if power is switched off.
It is used for storage of data in a computer.
Computer may run without the secondary memory.
Slower than primary memories.
• Memory unit is the amount of data that can be stored in the storage unit.
• Computer stores and processes data in the form of binary numbers.
• A binary number is either 0 or 1 and is known as bit (binary digit)
