Mindscape
A psychological film-based magazine by Charlie
Williams
Purpose of my magazine
● One of the purposes of my magazine is to make sure people are aware of
how common psychological issues are around North London and to talk
about the reality of psychological issues and how psychological thriller
movies can sometimes be someone’s reality.
● Another purpose is to promote an independent film that is being
produced by Cinecloud Pictures.
● The genre is also really popular, so I thought that it would be a good
magazine to produce in order to gain and maintain a good audience and
a growing audience for the future.
Form and genre
I will aim for my magazine to be
shorter than others, only 36 pages.
My magazine will also have a red,
black and dark blue colour scheme
and will be made and printed on
coated paper. I will also have an
online presence through the use of
my app called Mindscape, where
all new and old issues will be there
every week to download for £4.99
The genre of my magazine is psychological
and not only thrillers but the feeling and
issues too. Many people experience
psychological issues in real life and these
films and my magazine can put people in the
perspective of someone who may be
struggling.
Content
My magazine will contain a striking and
eye-catching cover image to entice
anyone who may see it. The title will read
Mindscape in bold, large letters which
highlights the main theme of the
magazine and it will then contain a table
of contents.
One of my sections will be
interviews with actors who
have played such tough roles
and they will describe how it
affected them and what they
learnt from such a daunting
and intimidating role there are
actors in the past who have
had suicidal thoughts after
being so committed to a
mentally ill character.
Throughout my magazine , there will
be various QR codes that will lead to
helplines for any mental or
psychological issues anyone may be
going through
My magazine will also be priced at
£4.99
My magazine will be based on the film
‘Translucent’ and the North London film
studio producing the film is magazine.
The film release I am promoting and the
North London film company producing it
The North London film studio producing this
film is Pebble Studios.
Target audience
The primary target audience for my
magazine will be people aged 16-24 as
the film will be aimed at young adults.
My secondary target audience will be
adults aged 30-50. They may also be
interested in the magazine as it
analyses not only the genre but also
the effect of mental illness too.
It will also be aimed at both genders
because both will enjoy the magazine from
their point of view. My targetted class will be
lower and middle as they may be more
associated with mental illnesses, whether it's
them or anyone they know. Whereas some
upper-class may want to steer away from the
subject.
Streaming services
I am using Disney+ and
the up-and-coming
service ‘Swipe’ because
the genre of the film
settles in nicely on both
of them as they both
have many thrillers,
horrors and
psychological films
BUDGET
Resources and
personnel
1. For my magazine, I will need resources and
personnel to make a high-quality magazine.
2. For example, I need resources such as renting
a good camera and laptop to reach the highest
quality possible for my magazine. I will also
need coated paper as that’s the material of
paper I will be using.
3. My magazine will also use personnel. I will need
a photographer, models and stylist who will
help me convey the emotion and theme of the
magazine. I will also need an editor, graphic
designer and writer to create the best possible
script and appearance for my magazine.
Distribution and marketing
methods
The distribution and marketing methods I will use will be very important to
promote my magazine and reach my target audience.
I will use direct sales as my distribution method. I will partner with large
shops and bookstores such as WHSmith, Tesco, and Sainsbury’s so that my
magazine will be on shelves where it will be seen.
For marketing, I would use content marketing, which is where customers
know that my magazine will be the go-to place to find more content and
information on a topic like my magazine and the film release it is promoting.
I will also offer online subscriptions through my magazine's website with
options to print copies as well.
Masthead
These were the
three fonts I had to
choose from but in
the end I went for
the font called
Megamind (the
bottom one) as my
masthead

Existing magazines in competition
This magazine is a competitor because it
is the world's number one horror
magazine and psychological thrillers can
fall under horror so many people may
turn to popular magazines.
This is also another competitor as it
also falls under the wide range of
psychological/horror genre.
Article ideas
● One idea is a section is discussing how filmmakers create suspense, which will look at how
filmmakers manage to create tension and suspense in psychological thrillers.
● Another idea is to discuss cinematography, which is one of the most vital parts of the creation of a
good-quality psychological thriller
● Another idea is talking about the genre's evolution from early cinema to the latest hits,
highlighting key directors and showing films that defined and influenced the genre and cult
classics
● Another idea is deep diving into character case studies which analyses classic psychological
characters such as Hannibal Lecter, Norman Bates, Patrick Bateman etc. and exploring their
character I can show what made them so good.
