BFS firms in the #GCC are betting big on tech — but blind spots in leadership and talent may hold them back. As we head into 2025, cost optimization, digital transformation, and customer experience are the top strategic priorities for BFS firms. And GCCs (Global Capability Centers) are increasingly seen as the engines powering this shift. 🔹 52% of firms plan to use GCCs to enhance emerging tech capabilities — especially in AI, automation, and analytics. 🔹 But 65% also report high turnover and talent retention issues. 🔹 And 55% say their GCCs lack leadership visibility or strategic recognition from business and IT. This signals a deep contradiction: BFS leaders want their GCCs to drive transformation, yet they’re not providing the structure, leadership, or long-term investment needed to make that happen. 🚫 Outsourcing ≠ GCC A quick reflection on a recent conversation that highlights the gap in understanding around #GlobalCapabilityCenters (#GCCs). Today, I received a call for a leadership role in a "GCC" for a European client. Within minutes, it became clear — the person leading the hiring had little to no understanding of what a true GCC is. ❌ The conversation revolved around outdated #BPO-era terms like "per seat cost," "coding teams," and "offshore support." ✅ But GCCs today are not just cost centers — they are strategic hubs driving #innovation, building IP, co-owning #product roadmaps, and enabling enterprise transformation. After several questions from my side, I realized this so-called GCC was simply building #apps and partnering with #fintechs — admirable, yes — but a far cry from what a true capability center is meant to be. I respectfully declined to proceed further. At this stage in our careers, many of us have built personal brands around capability building, value creation, and co-innovation — not transactional delivery work. When I evaluate an opportunity now, I look for: 😊Leadership that understands the GCC model 😊A vision for building new capabilities and IP 😊Focus on emerging markets, domain-led delivery, and strategic functions 😊A roadmap for customer co-creation, not just execution GCCs are evolving — and so should the mindset of those building and hiring for them.
