Marshall University is taking action to make nightlife safer for students and the Huntington community by placing the ONEbox in local bars. The ONEbox can carry naloxone and provides step-by-step instructions with on-demand training so anyone can step in with confidence during an emergency. By working hand in hand with bar owners, Marshall is helping reduce stigma and expand access to lifesaving tools. This is exactly what community safety should look like. PCC Gary Godden visited Step Out, Stay Out in Clifton, one of the inspiring organisations being funded through our Safer Nottinghamshire Together grants programme. Step Out, Stay Out is working to create a safe, structured youth club for 10–17 year old's at risk of crime, antisocial behaviour, exploitation or school disengagement. Operating three evenings a week, the project will provide: ✔️ Sports and creative activities ✔️ Mentoring and wellbeing support ✔️ A trusted space led by local role models ✔️ Youth-shaped sessions built around real community need By giving young people consistency, positive opportunities and supportive adults, this project aims to tackle the root causes of harmful behaviour, reduce antisocial behaviour in the area, and build stronger relationships between young people and local services. Gary met Pete Bell, volunteers and young people to hear how this funding will transform opportunities in Clifton and help create safer, stronger communities, a key priority in the Police & Crime Plan.

Teachers are on the front lines of school safety, and the challenges they face are growing. 55% of teachers have experienced violence or aggression in the workplace. 77% report that student needs have become more complex. As these pressures rise, so does the need for collaboration, compassion, and resources that protect both staff and students. School safety isn’t just about rules or policy, it’s about relationships, understanding, and community care. The YP Project is working closely with schools across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to support young people in navigating relationships with confidence and care. We’re helping young people recognise what respect feels like, so they know what they deserve. Through assemblies and workshops with Year 5 to Year 13, we explore: • Healthy relationships • Consent and communication • Boundaries and emotional safety • Confidence and self esteem • Positive masculinity and challenging harmful narratives These sessions encourage open discussion and practical skills that young people can use in their daily interactions, friendships and future relationships. This work is strengthening school cultures and supporting safer communities. More information https://lnkd.in/e2u7i7RH

Great dialogue and training about accessible and accommodation issues with the residents of St. Francis Square and Juliet Rothman. Juliet presented an ACT (Accessible Community Teams) training that educates residents on ADA compliance issues related to walking safety in their community. St. Francis Square residents are way ahead of the game, already walking together and reporting safety issues to the community and the City via the 311 app. They have an established committee that tracks updates and improvements. The ACT project was made possible in part by a Community Action grant from AARP. Read more: https://shorturl.at/2vkxE Read More:
