I think comparing company culture to sports is interesting as a metaphor, but I think the reality is maybe a little different. Employees operate in real time, often with little formal training, and mistakes have more immediate consequences. Not to mention that there also isn't just a single opponent at a time. Like how on the Culture Amp podcast, Simon Sinek talks about the idea of an infinite mindset - that business is more like a game without a defined endpoint where there are no ultimate “winners,” and the focus is more on long-term purpose and continuous growth rather than winning a single match - like in chess or football.

That’s unexpected. Focusing on culture before performance in pro sports makes me think about how company values show up on the field. Been deep in builds like this lately, always interesting what small details change the outcome.
